Well Timing jumped last week. Tried to figure it out for about a week. The car still started great but just sounded like there was a misss. Well anyways pulled it apart yesterday and found this. before i pulled it apart i got 160,163,160,161 compression(engine was cold). Havent set the timing yet cause im waiting for a oem belt to come. But besides that there was no engine noises present when i ran it before. Just curius to how i didnt break anything. Its a 2.4L. is there anything to check before i put it all together. I know theres alot of posts about this but everyone mentioned that they have bent valves. Any help would be gladly appriciated before i throw it back together.

P.S. The problem was the tensioner pully was not set right when they rebuilt it.

the cpu could have pulled timing to save it, or it could have been off some teeth to begin with and when it jumped, it wasnt enough to start pinging valves. i would pull off your valve cover and take a good look and make sure when you put it all together everything is set perfect.

ya i got the cover gasket as well. I got the exhaust mani off and i shined a light in the spark holes to see if i could see them through the exhaust ports but they lokked good. im going to pull the valve cover after my final today. Let you know if i see anything. Also what exactly am i looking for? fallen of rockers. Also i got revised lifters and they still chatter when the engine cold. Do i have to rebleed them?

thanks

i didnt say anything about variable valve timing. i was saying i got some head noise when the motor is cold since ive installed it and just wondering if theres anything i could do or check. sound like a lifter or a rocker noise.
