Weird Problem...I think I have a short? Everything stays on even with key out.

So I just put a new battery (Optima red top) in, and when I connect the positive side, I immediately hear the fuel pump kick on. I get in the car, & my windshield wipers are going..even though the switch is in the off position. The headlights will not turn on, and the lights in the dash that light up when the key is in the ACC position are lit up; all this while the keys are out of the ignition. Also the car just whines when I turn the key to start it.

Any ideas?

Edit: Everything was working fine before. The battery was just dead & couldn't hold a charge, so I switched it out for an Optima.

I would go through my fuses, pulling them one at a time and see if it's just one circuit that's acting up.

you could also check your fuses and your grounds. if none of this was going on before you installed the new battery, you could try hooking a different battery to see if it makes any difference; it probably won't but at least that checks one more thing off the list.:talon:

I'd also take a multimeter to that optima battery and see what voltage it is putting out.

This is without the ground being connected to that battery?

It should be. That's why I would check it, make sure there isn't some anomoly there. Especially if an older battery doesn't cause the symptoms you are having. If you have it and it is still somewhat good, check it.

What caused you to replace your battery, old one go bad all of a sudden or just felt like replacing it?

He stated that after I asked. :D If the old battery wouldn't hold a charge, is it possible these issues were there and drained your battery? Battery could be fine but your accessories staying on would quickly put an end to any charge you put on it. If you think it's possible, I'd go have the old battery checked out at your local auto shop.

I recently got done working an electrical issue and was going down the same road. But I didn't want to buy a battery I didn't need so worked to prove it was/wasn't the battery. 12v test light is also your friend in these cases.

Autozone tested my old battery; Confirmed dead. It drained one too many times while it was in storage. I'm guessing either from ECU+, or the LC1 wideband; both of which I installed before putting it into storage. That's another issue though. Right now I'd just like to get it to start normally. I've never heard of a problem like this before.

Do you have an alarm system?? If you do, chances are it reset when you pulled the battery and is acting like this as an anti-theft measure. Try to arm or disarm it.

Just an idea...

Yep it has the stock alarm on it. I dunno if it would make the windshield wipers turn on & the fuel pump turn on, though.

I'm guessing maybe there's a short somewhere that's making the accessories bypass the ignition switch or something?? I gotta get my hands on a multimeter..mine's in transit from Korea still.

I figured out yesterday that I have a blown Alternator/Choke fuse. In the upper left-hand corner of the engine bay's fuse box. That still doesn't explain why the accessories are coming on though. Maybe the ignition switch is broke??

I was going to suggest checking the 100amp alt fuse but I see you found it. When they blow, all kind of weird electrical issues arise which is normal.
