Hey again guys, since i tore the head part found bent valves and bought a new head, that might have overheated due to white build up on the exhaust valves. the 6bolt block hasnt been touched since i took the old head gasket off. thats where i am now. This is a non running car due to no spark.

Heres what i want to use the car for

1) its my project car so not my daily driver
2) i want to clean it up replace all the gaskets and replace bad parts get it running as good as a 17 year old car can run.
3) i will not be pushing this car with modifications until maybe 3-4 years down the road. so stock power

So i have a 2 part question

1. First questions im looking to just get the car running so i want to do as little machine work on these engine parts as possible so i am looking for a very forgiving gasket set in terms of warpage and surface smoothness. I found a nice complete gasket set at JAM (jackson's auto machine)
Heres what the website says about this product:

This is our complete engine gasket kit, it comes with everything you need when rebuilding your 2.0 6 bolt 4g63 turbo engine! And it also includeds one of our Ajusa performance head gasket,450whp rated. You will get all these gaskets & o-rings and our JAM~Premium valve guide seals at one Great Price!

and heres the headgasket that comes with it:
JAM~Ajusa 4g63 Perf Head Gasket, 450whp
This is the perfect Hot Street Performance head gasket, made by AJUSA Corp
*Designed for use in all 2.0 4g63 turbo charged engines up to 450whp
*So if you need a new head gasket but can't machine your deck surface to use the MLS ones, this gasket is an excellent option!

That sounds good it sounds like a non multi layered steel head gasket and im never going to come close to 450.

So is this a good gasket set for me?
I am basically replacing every part in the engine bay and every gasket that i have come across has been blown to pieces (the stock turbo gasket was in 3 pieces with the 4th missing!!!)
If not can you suggest a good gasket deal i need a new head gasket and at the very least an intake and exhaust gasket.

2nd question!
What is necessary for me to preform on the head and block i have, should i take it into a cylinder head shop and have them check the deck for straighness with a straight edge? should i have it decked? (head or block) . I am in no hurry to get this done and i have time to get money if it is expensive.

3rd question
head studs do i have to replace them if i took the head off? i think thats only with a mls headgasket.

THANK YOU i would be very lost without people like yall!

if your seriously thinking about doing all this, just get a rebuild motor from one of our dsmtuners.com venders! You can get a completely rebuilt engine for less then you think.

Might have overheated. Have a machine shop (or yourself) check flatness of the head and block with a straight edge.

Check the pistons for any damage. You can buff down minor damage with no ill effects (as long as you dont plan on pushing more power)

Install the new head (with new valve stem seals, and guides checked) with new timing components. (belt and tensioner at the least)

I would suggest a non MLS mitsu head gasket and ARP head studs. With your type of rebuild, you could get away with a Felpro overhaul gasket kit.

EDIT - I noticed you said the NEW head may have been overheated. Check the valve seat width and valve margin. If the valve margin is too low, you may notice cracks in the valve.

is the rebuilt engine going to be less than the $150 im spending on the gasket set and a possible $100 for them to flatten the cylidner head? ive checked out the entire engines and while they are very very cheap for a new entire engine its seems silly when ive got a good block and now a head that i know the valves are good on. That also seems silly...

thank you for suggesting the felpro gasket set i will check that out, and def take the head to a cylinder shop and borrow a straight edge for 3 min to check straightness, then discuss the options that i have.

oh just to clarify the pistons are good!

so final question do i have to replace the head studs (they are stock now) if i dont have a mls head gasket?

Definately replace them. If you know how to check the stretch of the bolt and its within spec, then go right ahead and reuse them ;) If not, grab some ARPs for $80 or so and be happy.

And for a head gasket, use an OEM head gasket, but I wouldnt suggest the felpro for that. Just a personal preference. Most non performance machine shops in this country cannot get the head mirror finish enough for a MLS gasket to even be useful.

If you have both the block and head cleaned up and straight, you should be ok. Slap new timing components on (even oil pump if you have the money) and youre close to ready to rock.
