Whats goin on guys? My friend just bought a 90 talon tsi awd turbo from a small used car lot for dirt cheap. The guy at the lot said the car drives and they drove it but then they came back and the car will not start.. It cranks and as if it's dieing to start it just won't. He said that it has an aftermarket alarm installed and is saying that thats the problem. Can that be????? If so how can you take it out and where is it? No idea what kind of alarm the car has but i have already searched and founds a good thread that helped me figure out problems if it turned out no to be the alarm. Help would be really really aprreciated

An alarm will prevent the car from CRANKING, Most aftermarket alarms have a "starter kill" feature. It will NEVER allow the car to crank but not start. Tell the dealer to fix it, its not the alarm.

I agree with assault. I got this car non-running and after having replaced a ton of stuff, still wouldn't crank and the doors would automatically lock once they closed. This meant I had to call AAA 3 times in one day (yes I didn't learn my lesson) to open the door for me.

By this time I figured the alarm was the problem so I looked under the steering wheel and found the "brain". Unhooked it and tossed it in the trash...viola, car starts and doors no longer lock automatically. The brain is a black box that would say the name of the company or the type of alarm. About the size of my hand...6"x5"?

This is the whole reason his friend bought the car though. He said his friend got it dirt cheap because it won't start.

My alarm does the same thing with the locking doors. It gets annoying. I have a Black Widow, it came with the car.

Worst case scenario, you disconnect the battery and just junk the aftermarket alarm.

Haha I have to laugh at that because with my 90 gsx I would spend endless cold mornings and night with a rod to unlock my doors while the car was still running.
