Hey guys,
Am struggling with an electrical problem and need some advice. Its coming from the alternator im thinking. It started a month or so ago. I sprayd my engine off. Well that water was the straw that broke the camel's back for the alternator. I got a new one put it in. It was fine for a day or two then I was driving at night and my and my headlights started flickering and going crazy, my srs light came on, and it the power wasn't up to par, backfiring (thinkin because the fuel pump wasn't getting enough volts) Anyway pulled the new alternator and had it tested and its fine, charged the battery back up. Again it was fine for a day, then tonight it started again. Wondering how to test the voltage going to the alternator? How many volts?Wanting some troubleshooting tips please. Help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Justin

Check your alternator again by starting up your car and disconnecting the battery and check and if your car shuts down your alternator is faulty.

Check your alternator belt for defects and tension.

I checked the fuse and it seems to be ok. I did pull the power suply to the alternator and one of the pins on the connector is black. I think its the hot wire but not 100% sure. What would lead you to believe?

Thanks

Ok I have narrowed the problem down. It only happens when the headlights are on. I just took it out here when it is still light out and it was fine. I flipped my head lights on and after a second or two the headlights would start to flicker, idling dropping and surging, lights in cluster. What does this lead everyone to believe?
