Thanks for taking the time to read my thread first of all.
I recently aquired a 1995 Eclipse GST; along with this machine came a handful of problems that coincidentally followed each other in a sort of domino effect 1 after another. Tis the trend with these cars I hear.
To give you an idea of what happened, I was driving the car normally when I stopped a 4way. As I left the 4way I noticed the car was a little harder to pull out of 1st gear, and even more difficult to click into 2nd gear. When I shifted to third, it didn't want to go in so I tried take it back to 2nd. After a couple seconds of easing it in, it finally clicked in with a horrid sound and I drove it to my house a block away. I pulled into the yard and shut the car off and tried moving it through the gears. When the motor is not running, it slides through all the gears perfect. I started it up and tried to put it into 1st gear and it did not want to slide in. I turned the car off and put the transmission into 1st gear and started the car. The car jumped forward pretty abruptly with the clutch depressed so I ceased starting.
I've diagnosed that the clutch is not disengaging, and its not a hydraulic problem. The car is equipped with an ACT2600 and Fidanza flyweel. Pedal pressure is excellent, yet I bled the clutch anyway to no avail. I purchased a new throwout bearing and pilot bearing in hopes this may be the problem. Pulling the transmission was no big deal in my 97 Maxima, so naturally I figured working on a 2.0L transmission would be in fact easier..
.
The halfshafts are completly rusted to the hubs. There is no removing these halfshafts without heat, thus I do no have. My question is this; what is the best way removing the transmission without being able to remove these halfshafts from the hubs? The car is resting on jackstands which are positioned under the lower balljoints where they mount to the body. Is there a better place to position the jackstands on this car?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I have the rest of the week to figure this out before I start my new job.
