Fuel Pump Help

My car will crank about 3 times and then make a loud grinding noise. I have tested the starter and it is good and my fidanza flywheel is only about a year old. My car made this same noise and wouldn't start a week ago so I pulled my fuel pump out checked all the wires and reinstalled. The car started right up and would never make the grinding noise.

Now I have determined the fuel pump isn't coming on again. I put a jumper wire from the Pos battery terminal to the fuel pump test connector and it just burns up the wire. I can put power directly to the fuel pump and get it to come on. Its a brand new walbro. Thanks for any help. -John

Edit: If my fuel pump relay is bad would the test connector not power the fuel pump?

Ok, so I pulled the fuel pump back out, bench tested it, put it back in and the car fired right up and the test connector now works. I didn't do anything but take it out and put it back in. Now when I hit the gas it has about a 1 second delay before the engine revs. Man this thing is driving me crazy. I just put $1500 worth of parts into this thing and it's left the garage twice in the last 3 months. I assume I have a short somewhere which caused the test connector to pull way too much current, burning the wire up, but I don't understand how removing and reinstalling the fuel pump has gotten it to start twice now. I don't want to drive it because I know its gonna leave me on the side of the road for the third time. Hopefully I can figure out the fuel pump issue but I need some help with the throttle issue. Like I said it take about a second after stepping on the gas before the engine revs. I've seen this before on cars with electronic throttles but it's never happened to mine before.
