This head is ruined, correct?

So I bought a '94 Talon ES because I have a motor that needs a home, and this particular car had timing belt issues. Once I got the car home I decided that I'd like to rebuild the motor that's in it to install in the car at a later time. When I tore the head off the engine, I was taken aback by what I found. First, the timing belt wasn't broken when the previous owner told me it was. Come to find out he replaced the timing belt without checking to see how extensive the damage was. Story goes like this: He was driving, car died, wouldn't start. Gets it towed, finds broken timing belt, replaces it. Engine still won't run, continually tries cranking the motor over destroying all 8 exhaust valves, and bending 4 intake valves, along with destroying the head. I think the block is still usable, but the #1 cylinder wall has a spot that feels like it bows inward. There's serious damage on the head, including the valve seats. I think you'll find the following pictures graphic, nauseating, and you may feel a little queasy. Proceed with caution, not for the fain of heart! Mods, please move this if deemed necessary, I thought I was in the correct forum, sorry.

I wouldn't say the head is ruined so much as the contents LoL
I'm sure you can buff that right out :thumb:

Seriously, I wouldn't toss it or anything. I would, however, take it to a machine shop and have someone look at it/ give you an estimate. As far as the piston wall "bowing"...WTF
I introduced my valves to my pistons too, but none of my pistons or piston walls were that bad. N/Ts have cast pistons as well, right?
Anyway, good luck

Edit: Just re-read that and discovered you were talking about the piston walls...

I wouldn't think so...Cut new valve seat deck it , install new valves..call it a day.

Ehhh, the way that head is whacked, i wouldn't be surprised if it needed valve guides as well. I'd look for a different head, it may be easier to get a j/y head, new valves, seals, and a valve job than getting all new seats cut, new valve guides, and new valves/seals.
If the block "feels" like it has a bow in it, it just might, i would have the block checked out before you do anything.

DSM heads are still too plentiful and cheap to bother working on that one. It's repairable, and possibly worth putting on the shelf for "later", but for now, grab another rebuilt. You'll be (ahem) ahead.

Most likely the valve guides are cracked, I broke a timing belt (because this awesome freeze plug blew out of the head onto the timing belt) and I wasn't even going very fast....it bent like 4 valves, and the guides cracked. The car didn't smoke before, but it would have had I rebuilt a head with cracked valve guides.

This head will be for later use, the valve guides I'm not too worried about because they're inexpensive, one of the guys I work with does engine work and told me he'd re-seat the valves, change the guides, and deck it for a reasonable price. The only reason I kept it is for a 'spare' engine.

Just go to the local boneyard and pick up another complete head. They're like $40 and not nearly as much work as that one's going to be.
