I just recently bought an automatic 93 turbo talon for $300. It had 2 bent valves and was sitting for about 2 years. I replaced the valves and checked everything that I knew I should check and attempted to crank it. The car had not been hooked up to a battery for 2 years. When I first hooked up the battery, the check engine light came on when I turned the key to the On position, then went off like it should. Ever since it went off, all the dash lights except for the door light went off and would not come back on. Could this be the computer or just a loose wire? The car did not even attempt to crank each time I tried to start it. I double checked all sensors, spark plug wires, and fuel lines and everything was fine.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the fuses on the battery terminal? they are big ones like 40 or 50 amp and maybe a 100 amp. Does other stuff in the car work like the radio, seatbelt or headlights?
Do you own a multimeter? Or even a test light? The starter cranking has nothing to do with an ecu. Power goes in the key switch and out to a solenoid. The solenoid also has a main power which is like a 4 ga wire. It almost sounds like an ignition switch.

The radio works i know for sure. I am so used to the seat belts, i did not even notice if they worked or not. I do have a meter and plan to check over what needs to be checked. I just did not know where to start. What is the easiest way to check if it is the ignition? I have never had this problem and I am on my 4th talon.

look at the pdf in here
I guess I was wrong the wire does go into your ecu

12volts white + ignition harness
Starter black/yellow + ignition harness
Second Starter
Ignition black/white + ignition harness
Second Ignition
Third Ignition
Accessory blue/black + ignition harness
these wires are at the back of the key switch. Make sure they have power in their respective postions

I will check on all that tomorrow and will post back what I find out. I really hope it is not the ECU because there are no junk yards around here with a turbo Talon :(

oh yeah, one more thing, if the ECU is bad, can I simply replace the caps that go bad in it and see if that works or would that be a waste of time?
