Ok so hears the deal; i drove my 91 gsx today for the first time in two weeks. I hadn't driven it one because about two weeks ago i had a major oil leak from my oil return pipe then i hurt my right leg and wasn't able to drive. SO when i was driving it after i let it warm up for about ten minutes i noticed that when it is was putting it on full throttle with full bost in third and four that when i realesed the gas a puff of smoke came out my exhaust. it is also running really rich when i was on it full throttle. so when i stopped i popped the hood and there was some smoke coming out looked like it was just burn off but i'm not totally sure i'll check the return line again, then while under the car it looked like it was somking from the cat. so can any one help me out? whats going on?
 
You should do a boost leak test first off if your running really rich like you say. That could be whats making the smoke come out, and if your venting?? then that would cause you to run rich between shifts. Like you said the oil could just be previously spilled oil burning off. It also could still be leaking, you need to find out for sure and do a leak test and come back with the results.
 
Potentially a turbo seal if the return leak was bad enough. What color was the smoke? May have a boost leak somewhere too, make sure your CBV ('bov') is recirculated properly, and do a boost leak test.
 
ok thanks so can you help me out and tell me how to do a boost leak test? i'm pretty new to turbo's coming from a muscle car world
 
Since your new and im assuming you dont know what it means to recirc your bov? Is it possible to take a picture of your engine bay?

Anyways to recirc your blow off valve, the blow off valve is the thing sticking up off the piping coming from the throttle body. That should hae a recirculation hose going and connecting to your intake pipe. Is that on there?
