my ECU was taken out because the constant 12V coming out of my ECU was really only 7.XX volts, and now i have a buddy of mine's ECU in there and everything's fine.

what I wanted to know was if one of those ECU caps that tend to leak all the time would control something like that....maybe i can just replace those caps and give my buddy back his ecu?

and the other question is if there's any way to get my hands on the male end of the plug that the ECU plugs into... i want to be able to take the megasquirt out at some point and still be able to plug in the stock ECU... looks like you can unsolder the connector and maybe solder some wires to it, but that seems like a real ghetto way to do it...

The capacitors leakage is what eats the circuitboard and the circuits on it. If your board has a strange smell, it's damaged and needs professional help.
