Hey guys,
Here is my story. I have a 91 GSX with about 90,000 miles on it. I pulled the head to have a valve job done. I zip tied the timing belt to the cam gears, relieved the tension on the belt and did not touch them so I would not have to mess with setting the timing. I installed the head, all is good. I started it up and it idled a little high and it puffs a little white smoke. I did a compression check and it was 160's across the board. I went ahead and retightened the head bolts just to make sure. The smoking is not very noticeable right now. I have another problem.
I started it up and it still idles high but now it sounds like it is misfiring. The CEL is not on and when I drive it it accelerates but it feels like it is misfiring. My question is, is it possible to misfire and not have the CEL on? Before I start replacing the plugs and wires, I want to make sure that it is not something else. I thought that I might have installed the CAS rotated 180 incorrectly so I pulled it and rotated 180 degrees and reinstalled it and it did not make any difference. Is that normal?
Do you guys have any ideas? My friend, the DSM Master, is going to come over on Sunday but what should I do until then? Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
