ok here is my problem. i have 15 miles on a rebuild engine and i have very low compression. i have 55-57 on all cylinders dry.

should i try it wet and see what happens?

also i am running synethic is that bad or not?

could the rings not be in yet?

last problem is that when i line up my timming marks on my cams my TDC marks is like 1/4 off on my crank shaft pully.

if i line up my crank shaft pully up to TDC then my cams our off my a half a tooth. will that really make my compression low?

also it is very hard to start after you run it for awhile any ideas

if your timing is set incorrectly , it will cause low compression
set your timing and do the compression test again

i had a customer come in with the timing off and the car won't even start

The most important part of a rebuilt motor are the first 20. You need to break it in like you will be driving it. TabooSpeed did a huge writeup on it. You need to hold the rpms at a constant 3k, then 4k, take it around the block. Put the car in 3rd gear, and run it up into the rpms, at high speed. (I am not recommending street racing, do it on a desolate road, or in a controlled environment) and let the car slow down, not using the brakes, but the engine. Go home, change the oil immediately while hot. You should use non-synthetic oil when breaking in an engine. Many engine builders use ATF and pour it directly over the pistons before assembly to help seat in your rings. Your rings should be seated by 15-25 miles if you have properly broke in your engine. I would try and do a wet compression test. If you are getting that low of compression, something is up. That is quite horrible, and below the service limit. Do it wet, and see what happens. How did you break in your motor?
