well i have been having a heck of a time with my car to say the least. At first the stock clutch burned and i was pretty strapped for cash so i purchased a xtd stage 4 clutch and also installed a new clutch slave cylinder. Install went fine got it running and 136 miles later i was walking again. So this time when i dropped the transmission the center hub was broke out of the disk and my master cylinder was shot. So i replaced the master cylinder and bought a slowboy racing street disc and kept the xtd pressure plate. the install went fine and i got it running again and at about 430 miles i pulled up to a stop sign and put the car in first gear and started to go and i hear a "pink" and some grinding and the car stopped again but this time its different when the clutch is out it shifts in and out of every gear fine even while running, but when you push the clutch in first gear go almost all the way to the radio like the gear isn't there just pushing the shifter into air. then you let go of the clutch and its right back. I am at a loss to find the reason i keep breaking clutches i haven't even got one broke it yet so there hasn't been any boost on them Possibly anything to do with the flywheel? possibly warp from slipping of the stock clutch? or is me spacing to get the flywheel resurfaced coming back to haunt me? thanks for your help and sorry for the long post buts its been a long 2 months

You should resurface the flywheel if it is not perfect, when changing the clutch.

I would first check that the transmission is mounted perfectly against the crankcase. Loose bolts, or even dirt between the two, can cause you to break your clutch and ruin bearings on the input shaft of the tranny.

I would then pull the tranny, and check for play in the input shaft. Give the gear selector lever on the tranny a wiggle, try to change gears. See how it feels. It should be solid. If it is not, you may have horrible shaft play or bent/broke forks.

DSMs are known for breaking hubs of clutch discs. Usually this is for one of two reasons:

1) Incorrect mounting of transmission against engine -- this can be from dirt, using the wrong bolts, having dowel pins doubled up or missing, or a variety of other reasons.

2) Transmission input shaft runout. This is also a known common problem with the transmissions in these cars - the input shaft of the transmission gets sloppy and can move around, and when it does, it puts stresses on the hub of the clutch disc that it wasn't designed to handle. Of course then, the hub likes to break. Next time you have your trans out, check the input shaft runout with a dial indicator. I can't remember how much is acceptable offhand, but you should be able to find it in the factory service manual somewhere (on the DSM cd if you have a copy)

Perhaps some helpful person will chime in with the specs.

well i finally got back into town yesterday and got to work on the car and i found that one of the problems was the shifter. the nut on the blue peice of aluminum(b&m shifter) that holds the shifter to the assembly not the nut that holds the blue peice to the actual shifter came lose and this was why the gear selection was all messed up. But there is still a problem the clutch wont disengage and when the clutch pedal is released it makes a grind/howling noise that stops most unpleasently like if you bogged a die grinder down till it stoped when the clutch is pushed in. the tranny is less than 6 months old and has less than 7000 miles on it so i hope there isnt a problem with the input shaft and i dont believe it broke the hub out again as it wont go into gear like last time where it went into any gear running or not clutch pushed in or not. Any ideas so i can start buying parts? thanks for you help im gonna get this thing running eventually
