ok, I am sure I'll catch some heat for this but, these cars sound like they are more trouble than they are worth. My girlfriend bought one yesterday in Fl. and is still on here way home with it. She cannot find a washer fluid bottle to fill, gas station attendant found a small "front main leak", and oil press. dropped off while waiting at a red light on a steep incline.
I guess I sould have researched the car before we bought it. It all went so fast and she loved the car. I understand that low oil pressure at idle is ok for this car and I sould replace stock gauges with aftermarket units. I'll figure out the pisser tank when the car gets here. But hearing about a possable main leak and the reading about crankwalk...
I am just getting nervous. Did we buy a lemon?
There sure seems to be alot of problems with these cars! Someone give me a reason to not regret this purchase.

Here is what ai know about the car: 95 gst, evo III turbo, new head, arp studs, cometic 4 layer head gasket, Greddy 3" cat back, new timing belt, Injen turbo intake, 145,000 miles rebuilt @ 105,000 :sosad:

OH YEAH THEY ARE WORTH IT, or I mean worthless(sometimes).

but when they are running fine they kick ass,

from what you said I think you should replace the timing belt and do some maint. stuff on it.
did you say @145 the Tbelt was replaced, or @105?

for the leaks, clean the engine bay really well with some degreaser and find out exactly where its coming from, go from there!

The people that report problems are the same people who have piss poor maintenance habits. (The washer fill is in the trunk, FYI)

My 1g has 150,00 miles on it and still going strong, and my GSX is encroaching on 110k with no problems.

If you beat on a car and don't want to maintain it, get a honda.

Well,I havent been able to do any maint yet, As I posted: the car is not in my possesion yet so I havent maintained anything.
We have a honda (98 civic dx) 190,000 miles, no major work just maint. and it still runs strong.
Not looking for attitude here POSMonster.
Seller said the motor was rebuilt 40 thou ago by a mitsu dealer. I would hope that is true and if so that they would not reuse a timing belt on a motor like this.

LOL, all i can say is welcome to the DSM world:thumb:

you dont have ANY aftermarket gauges at all? if i were you, the very first thing i would do is read this and follow this path...http://www.dsmtuners.com/sub.php?page=2gtupgrades.

as far as c-walking goes, it all depends on who you talk to. I'm sure that you could search on here http://dsmtuners.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2508652 and hopefully you can find your answer

and a "front main leak" to what? IMHO, you're honestly gonna take the word of a gas station attendant telling you that something is wrong with your car? dont take it as I'm coming down on you, I'm trying to give you advice...and just for the record, this website provides all the information and/or links that you'll probably ever need for your car...you just gotta search for it

Yep, what he said! :D

Also, when you get the car in your sight, double check where the leak is coming from. Front main leak is very very in-descriptive. It could be a simple thing like a bad seal on the oil filter or something.

So the way I understand it its been modified and its your girlfriends right? Well, if thats the case. Make sure that if she doesn't plan on having the maintenance items done on a regular basis, you will have problems. These cars do require the maintence to be done at regular intervals. Remember too, it is a well used car, with a fair amount of miles on it, and you don't know how well it was taken care off. "Caveat Emptor= Let the buyer beware"

The washer bottle fill is, believe it or not, under the rear hatch, all the way back by the tail light, driver's side, in the quarter panel sill. Little black rubber thing. Took me a half day to find mine too, back when the car was new.

All I can say is, I'm new here as well and new to the DSM world, but the people on this site have gone so far out of there way to help me and answer some of the most trivial questions, I'd name my first born something crazy like 4GAWD or something. :thumb:
From my experience in the last year, these cars are a little more involved than most. But if your a car nut, then it gives you a hobby! My 91TSi has been up and running strong for over six months with minimal drama. These cars are so much fun! And you get extra bonus points for not having a car that everyone else has. Get that thing checked out by a reputable Mitsubishi guy, make the search function your friend, and go beat up on some stangs and vett's (on the race track of course)

The people that report problems are the same people who have piss poor maintenance habits.

I used to think that, but have changed my mind after:

- 30k mile oil pump failed (luckily I shut it down before it cost me an engine). Unbelievable.
- Coolant bottle cracked and all the coolant leaked out. Just plain stupid.
- I'm at 100k now and the car just had it's 3rd starter installed. What kind of junk do they build these things out of?

I beat on my cars, but I work hard to maintain them. In comparison, my 4 year older and 109k MORE mileaged MR2 (total 209k miles) is on the ORIGINAL starter. I did lose an oil pump on that car, but it was at 180k (it DID take the motor with it).

Did I give anyone attitude? Don't call me names when I'm helping you!

I re-read my post and I was in no way being rude.

Small hint of attitude in the delivery.

Read the rules of the site. Specifically rule #1. Name calling will get you nowhere here. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/faq.php?faq=faq_rules#faq_faq_general

Now, on topic, washer fill is, as stated, in the rear hatch area. This single bottle is for both front and rear washers.

Leak could be a multitude of things including, but not limited to, leaking or loose oil cooler, oil filter housing, oil filter, front main seal, cam seals, oil pump seal, bs seal, front cover gasket, etc. If properly maintained, the car should provide good service. If not maintained, it will become a hunk of crap in no time. The car will only be as good as it is treated. Remamber, you are dealing with a car that is 12yrs old with quite a few miles. things will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. A turbo car is about 200% harder on underhood parts due to the extreme underhood temps and the increased power output. There is no way you can compare any part of this car to a low power output 1.6 liter powered honda. But when I had my turbocharged crx, it was as hard on parts and needed as much maintenance as my dsm needs.

I apologize for the name calling...

maybe.

that washer bottle trips me out. thanks to TSIMonster she was able to find and fill it. only to find that the pump wont work.

will be doing a full inspection this weekend. car smells of burning oil bad but didnt seem to lose a drop according to the dipstick. from forida to michigan it seemed to perform fine. what I thought was a gas attendant tuned out was a "mechanic" from a shop near by. still not taking his word for anything tho.

dont get me wrong, this is a sweet car. And I will maintain it well. have to since SHE has called me several times with her honda 3 quarts low. nLOL

thanks for the links EKLYPSE. I am going to have to study up if I want to hang with this crowd.

I'm sure LordZED is right about how helpfull everyone is. which is the reason I joined in the first place.

As far as the no noame calling rule goes, the person responsable for that rule is a doodoo head. I reserve the right to fight fire with fire. pg-13 fire at least. ha
ok... I'll try to stick to the rules. Like I said, I'm here for the help.

will post updates to this thread. unless directed otherwise.

and if this car turnes out to be worth less than a box of uncle ben's, I'll just have to run it over with MY toy: 78 K5 blazer-454-sm465-np205-14b w/lockright-44hd w/auburn lsd-6"susp.-2"body-35"tslsx

oh yeh, there is an apexi( i think ) timer which shows O2 (voltage?) battery volts, O2 rich/lean ( red/green ) and runs the car after ign. off for a preset amount of time. And the boost gauge is aftermaket - autometer i think.

Once her 12 year dsm was modded she gave up all rights to a reliable car. Comes with the territory. Oh and she probably bought a lemon.

make sure u keep ## maintenance up that is the weakest link in these cars the owner if u do that u should get alot of injoyable time out of ## car DSM FOR LIFE

Haha, also, just incase you didn't know (I never saw anyone mention it) when the car idles, or very close to idle, the oil pressure will rop below the line on the guage. People new to these cars sometimes think that this means the pressure is too low. It's supposed to do that. You may also want to check the valve cover gasket. They can leak oil in any direction from the top down (obviously) making it look like it's coming from a multitude of places, when in reality it's just running in different directions on it's way down. BTW your blazer sounds badass. I got a 93 F150 w/ 3"bl and an 8.8 with 3.08's and a and a good ol straigt 300 on 31's .

havent got the eclipse in the garage yet. I'm putting a timing cover on my sisters saturn sc-2. should be done this afternoon, then the eclipse is going in.

my truck is not pretty, but it gets the job done...
