Since I got this car, the cruise control hasn't worked, I dont get the light in the dash or anything, it wont set or anything. It really didnt bother me before, but now i have to take the highway to work and a cruise control would be nice! Anyone have any ideas what would be wrong? The box is obviously there :) in the engine bay... tried searching around, but not many posts about light not appearing in dash.

Ok, i noticed that on my car there's a clutch problem with the clutch pedal not being all the way up. Trying pulling your clutch pedal up with your foot next time you're driving then see if it sets. I had to do that with mine a couple of times before my 1g broke.

If it does set, then you may need a new clutch pedal spring.

You mean like put your toe underneath the pedal and push up, if so, I've tried this.
Are there any fuses which could have blown?

Correct. Hit the cruise on button, that button actually lights up, the little yellow dot above the "ON", but when i tryed to set cruise yesterday on the highway, no light in dash.

Take a picture of your engine bay and post it - it should have a cruise control assembly in front of the battery and a box on the right side of the battery with 2 cables going to it from the front and one from the side.

It might be possible that you have the 'box', but don't have the actual cruise control assembly (like I have on my car because I removed it and put an oil catch can there).

mine does this same thing. the light light on the switch comes on but i cant get the cruise to work or bring up the "cruise" green instrument cluster light. worked fine sorta then it just stopped working one day. i assumed it was just yet another of the 75% of the american made parts on the car breaking.

where is the fuse for this thing, because i realized i never looked!

the clutch pedal has a switch that the computer needs to know the clutch is all the way up. similar to that of the brake pedal, with the switch that powers on the brake lights. look to see if you have the tab on the clutch pedal which pushes in the switch thus telling the computer the clutch is all the way up.

I had this problem on a 1g. I don't know the difference in cruise control systems between the generations-so this might not help. The column switch would come on (orange indicator light) but the cruise would never set and the instrument panel light (green) never came on. The problem: the vacuum hose that runs to the cruise actuator was horribly mushroomed on the end. It runs under the actuator and attaches to a nipple on the actuator's fender side. I snipped off the bad part and reattached it and it has worked great. The nipple on the actuator is much bigger than the ID of the vacuum hose, so hopefully your problem is as easy of a fix.
I would look for mechanical things like that before ripping apart the electronic parts of the cruise control system. In the factory manuals there is a diagnostic procedure you can follow too that will tell you if all your clutch, brake, accelerator switches are working correctly. Again, my experience is only with 1g.

Check all vacum lines, check both teh brake and clutch swithces and check the fses. If all those are correct and or good. you might want to get a factory service manual and start tracing wires

did this ever get solved? I'm having the same problem. orange light comes on but no green light. From what i read the clutch switch has to be hooked up and working if I understand that right correct? because when I got the car u could start it without pressing the clutch down. could that be the problem?

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but i am also having this problem. The orange light turns on but not the green one.

I have my clutch switch disconnected so i can turn my car on without having to depress the clutch, could this switch being disconnected cause my cruise control system to not work ?

Also, where exactly is the cc fuse located ?

No, the clutch switch for starting the car is separate from the clutch switch that works cruise control on a 2g.

Oh ok thanks for that info, now, my question is, where is the cruise control fuse located ? I have not found yet a picture or answer telling where it is.

My cruise control stopped working just like that. Main buttom yellow light was comming on, green CRUISE light on the instrument cluster not. My case is related to the pedal switch. The switch was ok, but I believe some kind of plastic/rubber spacer between the pedal plate and the switch broke off and fell to the floor. After this, the pedal upper limit wasn't pressing the switch all the way in no more. So I managed a way to cover again the little hole on the pedal plate and adjust the switch step.
The same exact thing happened to the brake pedal weeks ago, but that time I fixed it just ajusting the switch step (not actually need to cover the pedal plate little hole). It affects cruise controls working too.
