I noticed that there is about an inch to an inch and a half of water in my trunk by the spare tire. I already checked and cleaned out both of the drain tubes, they both seemed to be fine. Also there is water in my left tail light. I believe that the water is coming in somewhere thru the tail light. Just wanted to know is anybody else has had a similar problem, and what they did to fix it. I guess that i could get some clear silicone and silicone around the light. Just wanted to know if anybody has any other suggestions. I also checked the weather stripping around the hatch, that looks all good. The antenna seal is good, as is the wiper. Just seems to be coming in by the taillight. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I lost my best dual 12" sub box and all the carpeting and that peice of wood due to mold and ants caused by a water leak back there.:(

So right now I just pop those rubber plugs and let it drain or I will hear water sloshing around when I turn.

Have you actually sat in the car during a hard rain to confirm that its coming from the taillight?

I had a water leak into my trunk, it came in through the rear wiper boot that is around the wiper motor shaft. My wiper motor boot is starting to become hard this is where the water is coming in. I have not replaced it yet because the car is in a garage all torn apart so I really don't have to worry about water right now.

I also had a leak around my back window seal, the last person that replaced the window did not seal it correctly thus causeing it to leak.

Check these spots and hope this helps.

I had about 2" of water under my spare tire and it ended up being the rear wiper boot, Mitsubishi calls it a SPACER. I put a new one on this evening and no water leaks in the trunk yet.

Take the rear cover off on the hatch and pour water over your hatch, you'll most probably see water drops around the rear wiper boot/spacer and a wet wiper motor assembly.

I tried that, with no luck. the water in not coming in around the wiper assembly. SSomehow, the water is making its way in between the left tail light and the body of the car. I am going to try and put some clear silicone arounf the light and see if that will solve the problem. Also, there are no cracks what so ever in the light itself.

I found a good bit of water in my spare tire well the first spring after getting my Spyder. Apparently the previous owner decided to fill up the windshield washer reservoir with water, it froze over then winter and shattered. Then when everything thawed I had a nice little pond back there. :p

weird, i had the same problem when i got my car. Owner said it was from getting it detailed.. i uno how detailing gets 2 inches of water under the spare tire, but anyways, i still havn't been able to locate the problem. I'll check everything you guys just mentioned.

my 96 gs had the same problem. the hatch leaked a lot...whenever you opened the hatch after it rained, it would pour gallons of water inside and drenched my 12inch sub and amp...i suspected that from opening it so many times, it just went down under the spare tire cover/ floor and sat there. i use to hear the water moving around but figured it was my gas in the gas tank haha...that was way back
