Ok so i drove home from work shut my car off to go to my other job (about 30min) and came out and car will not start 96 GST. You can hear the starter but it sounds like it may not be fully engaged. The belts are moving but it seems very slow. I tried to jump it and it had no effect. Checked to see if it had spark and it dose. Checked timing marks on cams and they are in line dose not look like from the cams side that it has jumped a tooth just replaced timing belt a week prior. I was reading in my car book and it said it may be the Cam positioning sensor, cam angle sensor I cannot remember exactly which one it was called. It also says that this will cause it to loose spark and/or fuel. I am going to pull the starter tomorrow and have it tested just to make sure it is good. The main question I have is dose the starter have any roll/tied into the motor getting the right amount of spark or if it going out, dose it cause the motor to not start? also has anyone else ran into this issue I have looked around and haven’t seen another article that completely fits this issue.

If it has spark then the cam position sensor should be ok. The next thing to check will be fuel pressure and then compression. If its turning over slowly then I would say you have a starter battery problem going on to boot. You say that you are going to have the starter checked out and I think that might not be a bad idea, since its a free service. You might also want to have your battery checked at the same time since, again its a free service. Let us know how everything checks out.

Well I was looking into it and decided. instead of looking just at cams to make sure there timing marks were ok to pull all the covers off and check crank and oil pump when I did so I saw that it was slightly out of time on the bottom end tensioner is bad I didn’t replace it when i did the timing belt bad idea. so now i will put a new tensioner on it and hope i didn’t knock a valve. :beatentodeath:
