Well i was driving home and my 1G just stopped and wouldn't start again....i waited a few weeks before i got sometime to do anything thought It may have been an ECU problem since it had the same symptoms so i unplugged it(ECU) smelled it for that fish oil smell like the fryed one did. Seemed fine so plugged it back in and fired her up....she started right up I let her run for about 20 mins. then tried starting again she seemed back to normal. I was still a little nervous to drive so I went ahead and did a fuel filter change about a week later.....and then there was nothing just like before engine turns over but won't start. I need any help I can get I want her running already.Got big plans for her!
Suggestions anyone?
Thanks in advance

Check the caps on your ecu i had the same problem, i went to a few local shops here and they wanted 1k cause the said the timming skiped and bent the valve. So i did some searching on here and i found out when i pull my wires to check for spark i got none. Then i checked cap it was good, so i later pulled the ecu and that was it the caps went and was leaking acid on the ignition cap causing no start.

It usaully smells like bad sea food/rotten fish, egg. etc, not always does it smell. Looking at the board closely you can see around the caps if they went should be black or have a acid build up on it.

I fuggin hate dealerships/local shops for this reason, if they don't know what the problem is, they shouldn't lie to you and charge you 1k to fix something that isn't broken, what a bunch of fuggin idiots. I would call them and be furious if I was you.

Something like that, I'd just take it to a dealership. They know they're sh*t usually. Especially the one in renton. They got a couple mechanics there with decently modded 1 G's I talked to while waiting on an inspection on mine. They quoted me a rebuilt ECU at around 500 bucks ### my idle air control motor(IAC) went out and fried the part of the ECU that controls it. You can just install it yourself and save on labor. I left mine alone and just raised my idle a couple hundred RPMs over stock, so when I turn on accessories(A/C, rear window defroster, etc.) it comes down to stock idle (750RPMs). No big deal.

I dont trust tuner shops to do anything but install aftermarket parts and tune. The main DSM shop around here is Pina Motorsport and they're pretty crap. Very shady owner(andre). I got a buddy having them do a swap on an RX7 they gave him a quote thats almost tripled in price since he dropped it off. Every week they call him wanting to do some new crap he never asked for. When he went to the shop last they wanted to charge him 3 hours of labor for painting parts he never asked to be painted, he just wanted the motor in there and thats it. Also they said it'd be about a month and its been 6. If they couldn't handle it they should have said so.

Had them check mine out when I saw it wasnt charging and told them I though it was probably the fusable link. They called me saying it was the alternator and wanted 350+ bucks. I said okay assuming they knew what they were talking about, but know enough to realize they're screwing me on the price of parts so I go to shucks and get my own for less than half what they were asking and drop it off. They did it and still no luck, so I ask, "You're sure it wasn't the fuse?" and they said, "Yeah. Um, lemme call you back in ten...." 2 hours later I hadn't heard from them, I went to the shop and said whats the problem? They never did what I told them. It was the fuse and they charged me 140 bucks anyway, I was pissed, fuse was 5 bucks. They said, they didnt even know DSMs had fusible links. All cars do. Morons. I was speechless. Also everytime, I talked to them I asked, so how much is it gonna be again? And every time the figure got higher for the same job.

Never let anyone work on your car unless you know them personally and trust them. Back to the OP, take the cover off the ecu and look at the board. If you can't tell anything from it, try and post a pic on here of it.
