Hey guys,

yesterday my car died and i jumped it just fine. Got home (drove it for 20 miles) with out any problems, turned car off and went to start it, again the car had no power. Went to jump it again, the wires were all correct red on + and the black on the negative pole.

After a few mins of letting the battery charge, i tried to start it, lights in the dash were on, turned key to start it and nothing happened, looked through hood and saw wires were smoking. It was so bad it melted the negative poll off.

Today i got a new battery put it in the car and the dash lights turned on, went to crank and nothing. Tried a few times and still nothing, now the lights are very dim in my dash if at all on, battery has 12.5 volts in it. I checked it with a multimeter.

What do you guys think? alternator problem? since i changed the battery with a brand new one. I'm also using an energizer battery which should be pretty good.

:(

The positive wire does not get hot.

Some other things i noticed.

Now when I went back i turned key to on, the lights on dash were dim and slowly got stronger, but when i would go to crank, the lights would die again. with no key in the car, when i hit my hazards, nothing happened.

seems that i just have no power in the car, or not enough power to run anything even though the battery shows +12.6 V

this is getting frustrating :(:(

I wasn't able to find any pics of where the alternator fuse is on the 2G N/T.

I did check the fuse box in the engine bay and i did not see any fuse blown.

Ok, I suppose for now the problem seems to be resolved.

It turns out that the issue was not my alternator fuse.
The alternator is also working well, once I got the car started, I pulled the negative line from the battery and the car ran just fine.

What did I do to resolve the issue?
1. cleaned out the battery poles once again (this didnt fix it as i still couldn't start the car but can't hurt)
2. on my + side of battery I have two addional leads that seem to run to starter and possibly alarm? i didnt check and follow the wires all through to see where they go.
I took each one off and tried to start car, and still nothing.b
3. take the wires and shake them abit to ensure if their is a short to unshort it.

Seems these three things in combination solved the problem. Im thinking there was a short somewhere which came loose, this means in the spring when it gets warmer its up to me to undo the wires and fix the short.

Some things i noticed as well was that the lights inside the car would light up now and when i would turn on the head lights the power would all dissapear, this again leads me to believe their is a short in the system. Once i saw my headlights turned on ok, i tried to start car and it fired right up.

thanks for all the help from all. hope someone gets some useful help from this post.
