Erratic idle, searched and just don't get it

Well, got my 1991 mitsu eclipse gs 2.0 yesterday for $800. it fires right up, revs up to 3k drops and then misses at idle. it is running horribly rich at idle. sometimes it even stalls 6-10 seconds after i depress the clutch. It'll haul butt off idle though?

No vaccum leaks, and it does return a check engine light every once and a while when it is messing up but then it goes out.

Help anyone?

Get the CEL checked and let us know what code you get. You should be able to find someone that can read the code. Should be the first thing you do when you get a CEL.
