okay so i read up on the search bar, and it turns out that a clicking cause when i turn left (clicking only on the drivers side wheel) means I need to replace my drivers side axle. is this correct? could it be anything else?

that is correct!

It is most likely the cv joint and yes you will want to replace that.

Same problem for me, mine's clicking when I do a hard turn in either direction (into my driveway, etc), so I assume that means I need both CV joints? My plan is to buy both (left + right) axles and replace my old ones. From the VFaq sounds like I'll also need tranny axle seals?

Checker Auto (Shuck's/Kragen) has Cardone Axles for sale with a limited lifetime warranty $75 each side. Anyone ever tried them?. Also, need to change tranny fluid. How convenient.

Thanks!

since you got your answer already, mind if i jack this a little? hah.. I was just about to post the exact same thing, but when i make a left turn, the clicking noise is from the rear right. now what could this be? it did this before and after i changed the rear end on my 91 awd, so it's not the axles or the differential. i think this makes the noise when there is some pressure on that side, thus the left turn clicking. any opinions?

Do you have to buy a whole axle or can you just buy a cv joint or rebuild the cv joint? I heard a similar clicking and looked under the car. The boot that protects the cv joint nearest the hub/brakes is torn so I would assume that the cv is junk now.

Is there a way to just fix the cv?

you could rebuild it using the vfaq[i think thats where i saw it], or if your axle is still good and your boot is leaking, you could just buy and replace the boot, or you could buy an axle from like autozone or discount auto for under $100

Honestly, if you are going to "beat on your car" (cltch drop, drag race, auto-x, etc.) fork out the cash and get BOTH front axles. Yes, you will need new cup seals too. After installing the axles you wouldn't want them to start leaking a week later and have to do the same job again? Also, while you are down there, it's safe insurance to check your brakes for wear, lower ball joints, supension bushings, and I would highly recommend swapping out the tranny fluid, transfer case fluid, and rear-end fluid. It's a little annoying, but when you compare the cost of replacement fluid to the cost of hard parts in your drivetrain, it's worth it.
