My car clunks when moving forward or reverse.. Does not matter if the clutch is in or out.. Somewhat loud.. And i can feel it inside the car.. Not engine related.. Cv axles seem to be fine.. Any things i can check to find out what is going on?

Thanks for your reply. I will check them when I get home from work. Would that cause the car to sound like a metal-on-metal clunk/grind?

Also, it sounds like it's coming from the front of the car.

any number of rotating parts...wheel bearings, cv axles, etc...check your motor mounts while your at it...if they are trashed enough they will make a clunking sound as the engine moves back and forth...

A loose front brake caliper will do this as well.

They could move/clunk when you change direction forwards/backwords. They can also drag a piece of the caliper carrier against the rotor, making a scraping noise.

I would check your carrier bearing and change out your transfer case fluid with some redline shock proof. Ive also seen that bell shaped guard on the transfercase make noise because it comes loose, it makes like a grinding noise.

You say it sounds like it coming from the front of the car? Transfer case perhaps? That would be more under the car than the front but it's worth a look also.

OK - so I let it off the jackstands and backed it out of the garage... but I noticed something new - it didn't make the sound! So knowing I had access to a truck real close, I drove the car around the block 4 times... no noise. WIERD!
