Hey guys,

I have a 97 GST. There was a pool of antifreeze underneath my car. I jacked it up to see where it was coming from, and it is weird to see that it is dripping from where the downpipe meets the O2 sensor housing. Can you guys please tell me the possible sources of the leak? Thank you.

Could be one or more of several places in the vicinity.............

1. Water pump, it has a "weep" hole that it will leak from when the seal goes bad, or the o-ring for the water pipe.

2. Oil cooler, has a couple of water "jumper" hoses.

Check those first.

If it's the water pump, now is a good time for a timing belt change if it's been a while.

I actually just had the timing belt and the water pump changed about 2 months ago. Thank you for the quick reply.

If you still have a water cooled turbo (updating your profile would really help with things like this) you could have a hole in your coolant feed or return lines. You may also want to check the rad hoses and thermostat housing just to be sure as well as the waterpipe.

Good luck and keep us posted,

Andy

Yes, right now I still have the stock T25, but I am waiting for the Evo III 16g. It should come in about 2 wks. I actually have a previous profile (my screen name was rb26dett). Everything was updated, but then it got shut down because my email address expired. This actually is my girlfriend's screen name. I would never use a name as sexytoy69. Anyway, I drained my antifreeze, and took out my turbo, exhaust mani, and everything trying to find the leak, but I still cannot figure it out. I figured I would take it apart because I am waiting for the Evo III turbo soon.

When I took out the T25, I did notice that one of the banjo bolts for the water line was white. Could it be leaking from there? Usually antifreeze dries up white right? I could be wrong.

I agree. Mine leaks too from behind my balancer... its the seal on my water pump, but since Im lazy and spend to much of my free time playing paint ball I just fill up my radiator and be on my way LOL Like stated above though I would also check your return hoses and just to make sure you've checked everything take a look at those water lines for the turbo on the banjo bolts.

It surely can leak from the banjo although my 16G never did it. Anywhere coolant passes you can have a leak. Is the banjo loose or damaged in any way?

Is it common for antifreeze to leak from the banjo bolts on the turbo?

Common as being a problem area that needs to be checked... but dont dismiss it as "O its just leaking from the banjo bolt" its not something that should be happening or that you should say ah its ok its just from the banjo bolt.

And as stated before you never re use a crush washer. they crush for a reason.. so that they make a perfect seal to prevent leaking. One reason why its "common" for leaks to occure around the banjo bolts is because people get lazy and re use there crushed washers and wont go out and buy new crushed washer.

I keep plenty in stock cause you never know when your going to need them.
