Ok so my car has recently started making an odd noise when decelerating and in gear. The noise is almost like something is rattling around. The noise doesn't get louder with the rpms and i can't duplicate the nosie when the car is in neutral. I've searched and searched for anything that could be loose, but haven't found anything. I can't quite tell where it is comming from either, my guess would be on the drivers side. But when i had a friend sit in the car he thought it was comming from directly in the center of the car, around the transfer case area. Any ideas or help would be great.

Your rattle sounds something like my car. I have a rattle after decelerating too. I have found out that the cause is my throw out bearing being loose. The bearing has been worn too much and now rattles on the shaft. The diameter of the shaft and bearing has too much tolerance between the two. Hope this helps.

Might be a stupid question, but any possible way to test this without dropping the tranny? Oh yeah my TOB only has maybe 7xxx miles on it, why would it already be loose? The clutch, flywheel, tob, clutch fork and ball are all new with 7xxx miles on them.

Well you could try this: When decelerating push the clutch in until the bearing touches the pressure plate but doesn't engage, if it goes away they you found the problem. When i replaced a TOB last year this problem happened also, except that you heard it while the car was idling, then it would go away after it warmed up.

Just an update. I went tryed to duplicate the noise and now it won't make any noise. I'm at a loss, if it is my tob then it would do this all the time, not just when it wants to. I will drive the car again tomorrow and see if it makes any noise. Any other ideas. Thanks for the help so far ndsti.

ACT 2100 mated with a Fidanza flywheel. Would there be any other signs of the clutch going out other then the noise, that has for some reason stoped right now. The set up is basically brand new with easy driving the whole time. There are no engagement problems and the pedle pressure is normal. At first i put the clutch in, then i was having problems with getting the set up to engage and took it to a highly experienced shop. They took everything apart and realized that i forgot to shim the pivot ball. They put the shim in, threw it back together and its been fine ever since. Also i did the proper break in with the clutch, 500 easy miles on it. Is there any way this could be clutch chatter?

I have the same problem and was just about to post then seen this mabey I can help both of us out. mine happened before I replaced my clutch, flywheel, and throw out bearing and it still does it. mabey this can narrow it down? almost sounds like the CV joint but it dosent happen when you make a sharp turn.

Thanks and good luck,
Brandon

BTW I have a ACT 2600 with the ACT flywheel. I did the install and this is not the first one I have done. although first one on this car.
