I bought a used engine in great running condition, good psi and np smoke for $350 plus $120 for shipping. I was going to throw this one in while I rebuild mine w/blown piston rings. Well the exhaust cam gear has been hit from on top during shipping(I guess) and the cam gear is slightly crocked and has a crack in it, Do you think I can just change the cam gears with good used ones and new T-belt and parts and be OK,or are my cams inside bent also...... Any ideas..........

And on the #1 piston, the valves are up just a few mm. but none of the others are not, is this normal, I always thought when one was open, the other one down was also open.

Also, I run about 15psi of boost at most, do I really need ARP head studs, or can I just go with new OEM's.(much cheaper), I plan on a OEM layred metal head gasket.

It's hard to say what damage has been done to your replacement engine without a picture (which your title promised). Based on how you described it, I would think your cam is ok, but I would pull it off to inspect the end seal by the cam gear. If the impact was severe enough, it could have damaged the little guy.

Could you elaborate a little more on your second question? First of all, which engine is it regarding? Are you saying that one (either intake or exhaust) valve is open while the other one for the same thing in cylinder #1 is shut?

Most people upgrade to ARP studs, often when not even removing the head, because they are stronger, they are reusable, and they are not much more expensive than OEM bolts. I would say that the price difference is worth it because you'll never have to buy them again, and you won't lose any sleep over worrying if they'll hold. Although, you will most likely be ok with low boost on some OEM bolts.

I am working on the pics right now,I am resizing them, even thought they are under the limit, WTF.

On the #2 question about the valve being partial open, onlt the #1 valaves are open a little, shouldn'r the #3 also be open a little also(only the #1 is open at all)

You should be ok with just replacing the cam gears since the cams will break before they bend, the valves you have pictured are the exhaust valves and if they are open then they both should be open which they are, you must remember that it is a four valve per cylinder engine and they open in pairs.

if your taking the timing belt off both engines to swap the gear's why not play it safe and swap the cams over with the gear's on them? if not did you take the valve cover off the damaged cam gear engine to take a look inside?

I agree with sinner. Cams are extremely hard and will break before they bend. Try it sometime. Get a junk cam and throw it on the ground. I've done it to cams before and they just break in half. It's kinda cool. I was bored.....

Thanks, I think I am going to put my head and newer t-belt items on the used motor I just bought, just in case, besides the valves on my head look much cleaner., and I wont have to swap the cass, the 90 and 91 and not the same.
