I have a 1g auto because I am handicapped and have hand controls.

Here is the list of parts that I have.

2g exhaust manifold
safc1
1g manual cams
fpr
450 injectors
boost guage
255 fuel pump
and a datalogger

I think that is everything I have I am curious if this is a good start for parts. I know I still need a mbc. None of these parts are installed yet. Is upgrading to a 14b a good plan or are the gains minimal. Any feedback is appreciated and opinions on what I should do. I am planning on getting a full exhaust with my tax return.

Get an EVO3 Upgrade fro Auto from Slowboy Racing...call Jon at ext 12, he'll help you out.

We just did a 92 AWD Auto upgrade and everything we needed was included.

Now, unless you're going to go big turbo in the near future, I'd go with a 190lph fuel pump instead of the 255 and I'd go 550cc injectors.

that combination along with the EVO3 upgrade work like a charm.

Hope this helps you out in your upgrade path!

Cheers!

I already have all of the parts I listed. So I guess what you are saying is to go 16g instead of a 14b? I will look into 550 injectors. Why do you say 190 fp instead of 255? I did look at the auto kit from slow boy but it is $900 dollars and my budget is smaller that that and it seems all I am missing is a turbo. What is the difference between the ball style and the pintle style injectors? I am looking for around 300 to the wheels. Are the 550s a need or just better and do I need a 16g or could it be done on a 14b? I know where I can get a small 16g but 14b's are alot cheaper. Thank you for your help and input. I am not as knowledgeable as I once thought I was.

550 FIC injectors and a 190lph fuel pump combined with an EVO3 16G will potentially get you to the 350-400whp. I don't think the 14b can, I believe it maxes out at about 275 much like the T25.

190 is perfect if you're not looking to go more than the 400 mark. And with the 550's you can use the stock fpr :D

And btw, for the price difference or about $70 or so, go with the EVO3 and not the Small 16g.

As for the rest of the stuff you have

2g exhaust manifold - use it
safc1 - use it
1g manual cams - no need unless yours are done
fpr - no need for your goals
450 injectors - upgrade to 550cc to benefit EVO3 16g turbo
boost guage - ESSENTIAL
255 fuel pump - use a 190lph instead for your goals perfect for the EVO3 16g
datalogger - a must for tuning and troublesooting good to have

Thank you everyone for your help this board is great. Is it just going to be harder to tune if I use the 255 and aftermarket fpr or will it just overall not work. The 300 whp goal is what I hope to have before next summer. I probably should have put this before but my final goal is to have a streetable car that can get into the 11s. The reason I said small 16g is because There is one in town for 300 that is in good shape but I don't have the money yet and I am on the stock exhaust so I figure I need to do that first as well.

this is just my opinion but why spend twice? Wait a little bit more and pick up the EVO3, O2 housing and new exhaust. Just my opinion but it would make more sense than having to change turbos yet again.

And yes for the time being 550cc and 190lph is good for your 300hp goal. down the line when you want to hit the 11s and change the turbo to a 50trim or so, then go get 660cc or bigger, the 255lph and the afpr to control it all. Also, don't forget that at that point, DSMLink should also be on your list of things to get.

Hope this helps you out on your upgrade path!

Cheers.

I was wondering what harm the walbro 255lph with AFPR would do since he allready has them and is on a budget? Wouldn't the regulator control the increased pressure? $100 saved is $100 to get something else.

Yes of course :D

I'm just saying if this is the first time upgrading a DSM or any other vehicle, I like to keep it simple and baby step it...in the long run its better and when it was said that the goal was 300hp and later on an 11s car I figured let's get him to the 300hp goal and then worry about the 11s one by then he'll have amassed some knowledge :)

But what you said makes perfect sense as well..

Yeah you have helped a ton. I am not new to car mods just new to boost and dsm's. Oh and probably not going DSMlink I think I am gonna do Mega Squirt.

First of all, the 255 lph pump and the AFPR you have will be fine. In reality I would say it's preferred, because with the regulator and the gage you can be sure what your fuel pressure is, and the 255 pump will be great once your overall goals are realized. It will not make tuning the car any different than with a 190 and a stock regulator. In fact, the need for an AFPR with a 190 is very debatable, so I think it would actually be easier. I should note, though, that the only thing that determines your need for an AFPR is the fuel pump. It does not depend on what size injectors you are running in any way.

If your long-term plans are to go for 11s, I would say skip the 550s and go for a set of 650s. Granted, you will be pushing the limits of tuning with an AFC, but the 550s will just be an extra expense. When I made my numbers on the dyno, I was seeing 93% IDC with my 560s (and that's FWD). To make similar AWHP numbers (and to get into the 11s), you will probably need something bigger.

Thanks for backing me up on the 255lph/AFPR issue. Don

If you want to get into the 11's I would also go bigger than 550cc injectors, like Don said you are likely to be maxing out the IDCs. I haven't read too much about Megasquirt but it seems from what I have heard that it is a cheap way to make a stand alone sytem and you should be able to control bigger injectors with that. I will do some more research on megasquirt, my impression is that a lot of 2g guys run this, haven't heard much about 1gs on that set up, I am wondering what the drawbacks are, if any.

It really seems like DSMlink is the way to go now these days, wish I would have known about it before I wasted my money on this set up. Seems pretty easy to tune, and is way more advanced than running an afc/airflow sensor combo to lie to the ecu. In my opinion my set up is out of date, but right now thats all I have to work with.

For more free power don't forget to port the 2g exhaust manifold, the new turbo, and o2 housing. Have you looked into emissions deletion and other free mods? What do you plan on doing for an intercooler? I thought I might see how fast I can go with the sidemount, then add water injection, then see if I truly need the front mount. I want to make power on the sidemount basically, you just don't see too many people doing it these days. Anyway, it looks like your on the right track. Keep on searching/asking questions. :thumb:

Don and Auto RS T are absolutely correct. The 225/AFPR/650cc combo is the best for an EVO III, especially if you plan to exploit the combination to it's fullest.

Nice job gentlemen (like I would expect any less from either of you)

chickmagnet: There are much easier options out there than Megasquirt that will net you excellent power at low cost. EPROM ECU's with custom Keydiver chips work very well, but if you wanted the best solution, it would likely be link. Then again, if you or someone you know has intimate knowledge of the Megasquirt setup then have at it.

You can PM wishihadatalon (TJ) and I'm sure he'll jump in and offer some opininons. He's a smart tuner and can give us all some firsthand impressions. He tuned it well enough to run 12 teens and take the DSA class at the shootout but I'm not sure how much tuning time he has invested in it.

Sidemounts rule!
