Car won't start - should this wire be connected to battery?

Does anyone know if the wire in the middle is supposed to be connected to something on the battery? (it's either battery or nothing)

I tried to start the car without, but when pressing the start-button (custom made), all power was cut for a second, before power was restored again (with power cut, i mean all lights in dash etc. - the starter did not even "try").

Could this wire be related to the start-button, and being not connected explain why power was lost in stead of firing the starter? (i don't know electronics...)

where is that wire running to? it's red so if it went anywhere i would say to the + side of the battery

I'm not sure... And it's raining so bad that i don't want to go outside and check right now.

But what you are saying is that normally that wire shouldn't be necesary?

The start-button i mentioned had other colors. Could it be the amplifier/sub that was previously in the hatch? Is it normal to connect those right on the battery?

What he is saying is that since we have no idea what that wires comes from we can not tell you if you need it or were to hook it up. Sure most red wires indicate power, but most DSM owners just use what is available and not what is correct.

I have never connected an AMP or sub to the battery with that small of a wire I'd say it would melt the coating. NO it's not normal to have that wire going to the battery. Maybe someone rewired the Fuel Pump? maybe it's the power source for the start button

The cable was the amplifier and didn't need to be connected (since theres no amplifier right now).

The problem is apparantly that the battery is broke. The car has been unused for 7 months - only started about 15 times, and not ran for more than 10 minutes so it never got to charge properly. The reason i think the battery is broke is because we just charged it last night with a battery charger. But it still doesn't fire the starter.

Looking at the battery terminals in the picture, it may not hurt to clean them with a battery terminal cleaning brush. They look like they have a light oxidation coating which I get on my Talon every so often. My car would die at idle once a year and wouldn't start and cleaning the terminals would fix the problem. Since then, I've been using those green and red chemically treated felts rings at the terminals with success
