Okay. About 2 days ago i had a check engine light come on, but had to wait til the weekend to get it checked. Today when I go to turn my car on, it starts for a second, backfires and shuts off. OMG I try to start it up again and i just backfires but wont start. Now it wont do anything but make a sound like its turning by the engine doesn't really move, except for the belts. Just makes more of a winding noise. Anyone?

engine never starts, so I no longer get the "check engine" light. Pulled timing belt cover off and look like some groves are missing on various spots of belt. What type of damage would you guys guess i've done and what all do you think will be neccesary in terms of work to be done.

One more thing, what price would you guys say would be descent for a private mechanic to charge to pull head, reinstall after it machined by another shop and do timing belt and water pump and stuff while hes in?

just wondering

thanks

Ooof. Broken timing belts are trouble for this motor. They are interfearance motors which means the pistons and valves occupy the same space, just at different times. The timing belt is the crossing gaurd, the pistons are the cars, and the valves are the little kids. You just killed the crossing gaurd. I think you know where I am going with this...

Okay. Car is now back on the road after rebuilt head and new "Major Tune Up Items". It ran fine all day then cut off on me on the highway while cruising @ about 75mph. Car would crank but never start. Took it back to the shop and after really nothing it started but still randomly shut off while driving/wouldn't start. What it would do is, loose all power while im driving (mph and rmp gauges drop all the way) and car would roll to a stop then cut off (oil light turns on). I would keep trying to start it , it would eventually start then do the same thing. Any ideas?

*******Recieved no check engine light********

If it helps, it seems to be working now after my mech. messed with the fuel pump and auto shutoff relays. But I dont know if that was a fix or if it will be an on-going thing.

The thing is that it wasn't just cutting off. I would loose all throttle power (rpm/mph gauges drop) it would roll to a stop and then cut off where oil light was on. Then it would take it while to restart. That was random.

Now after a few days, the car just starts up but idles terribly at first. Starts up rough (100-300 rpm) and sometimes will shutoff if I dont gas it, but after a few seconds the idle is normal (steady 900 rpm). Also when im driving and come to a stop sometimes, idle will drop then recover but if im running electrical items (A/C ,headlights, wipers) car is more likely to stall. Any ideas would be helpful. Just put so much time and money into this car (complete head job) and it is so close to running beautifully.

***FYI***
------------Battery is brand new
------------No "Check Enigne" Light
------------Issue definently started after head work
