well im new here and this is my first turbo dsm. its a 1990 eagle talon tsi fwd and the problem i am having is that at idle my logger is reading 12-13* of timeing advance and anything above 3500-4000 rpm 43 on the knock sensor. at full throttle in 3rd gear im getting anywhere from 35 and 45* of timeing advance . all of these readings are at 10 psi of boost the only suporting mod i have is a fuel pump rewire K/N and a MBC.

what should the timeing advance and knock readings be threw the rpm range?

Knock should ideally be below 3 counts. The 43 count is supposedly the max you can get, though I have seen threads where people have claimed counts of over 110. Those might have been faulty sensors, however.

I believe in most cases, that high of a knock count, given everything else on the car is working properly, is usually attributed to phantom knock which can come from a dying knock sensor, a knock sensor that's oozing the insulating goo that it's installed with, or a loose, shaking knock sensor. Your sensor may need replacing if any of those three are occurring. The bad part is, the sensor is located underneath the intake manifold, bolted into the block, so it's very difficult to get to.

35-45 degrees of timing advance??? Thats pretty high. It should be around low 20's to high teens. Have you checked your base timing??? If not you need to check it. Perhaps its severly retarded. And I'm confused. You say you're getting 43 counts at 3500-4000 but then say you're getting the 35-45 degrees of advance under WOT. So is it knocking while cruising??? If thats the case then it is most likely phanton knock. But you definitely need to check the base timing. VFAQ explains how if you don't know.

Check you base timing and post a datalog. Without a datalog to see we can't really help you.
