So I changed the timing belt because it was recommended with the water pump. We did everything by the book, and all the timing marks are lined up perfectly. Now the car will not boost at all in first or second, but will in 3rd and up. It also makes a loud whinning noise. I checked the timing advancement on my palm pilot and it was staying in mid 20's the whole time. Any Ideas to the problem?? It is also a 1g thanks

Something is out of wack if it is reading idle timming at 20*. My guess is your intake cam is 3 teeth advanced. Check the timming again bud, use a strait edge lined up center to center on the bolts that hold the cams on and make sure the two timming marks fall dead center facing each other and inline with the straitedge.

1. Are you lining them against the crank pulley? This is not a good mark to go by due to the possibility of a slipping pulley. Either remove the lower timing cover or use the rod in spark plug hole method to double check timing.

2. Compression test.

3. Did you remove anything else? Plug wires?

Like Old Man said...take out #1 spark plug and check TDC with a screwdriver instead of going by the crankpulley.
