First of all, this car has proven to be super reliable for me ever since I have owned it. It has never gave me any problems other than simple boost leaks.

So I went to go drive to work at 5 in the morning, and I turn onto the freeway on-ramp. (My car is still not fully warmed up yet.)

As I am accelerating in 4th gear at 2500 rpm, the car just suddenly dies on me. (Dash lights stay on, radio stays on)

I pull over in the emergency lane and try to start it, but it just keeps cranking and never turns over.
I checked for spark, and I wasnt getting any out of the plugs. I check everything else out, and everything else seems ok. Then I noticed that the wire from the front O2 sensor is laying on my exhaust manifold, and it burned right through the protective layer, exposing the wires.
The wires are still fully connected, but I think that it grounded itself out on the manifold.

My question is: What would get ruined if the o2 sensor shorted itself?
The only thing I can think of is maybe a fuse (I checked all the ones under the hood and kick panel and they are all good) or maybe a fried ECU.
And is there fuse for the ECU somewhere?

I towed the car home, and I will check it out when I get off work. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give all the details.

Thank you in advanced.

Sorry to hear about your problem.

I would first take care of the wire exposure, then try to disconnect the battery and reconnect then attempt to restart if you still have no spark for the wires then I would test the spark pac. if possible see if you have any trouble codes in the ecu related to the o2 unit. I am not sure that this will take care of your problem but it would seem like a good place to start.

I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu, but could only keep it DC for like 2 minutes while I was waiting for the tow truck.
It didnt work.
I will check for codes when I get home.

I have a 98 Spyder GS-T and I am currently experiencing the exact same problem. The car died on me last weekend as I was driving. It would turn over fine when I tried to start it, but would not fire.
The 20A Engine Fuse burned out so I had it replaced. One week later, the exact same thing happened. I've got some spare fuses now so I can replace them and keep driving, but I have no idea what may be causing this to happen.

I assume there must be a short somewhere. Any ideas?
