Ok...here is the thing... i'm not sure if anyone has ever made a comprehensive list of ALL the items (or at least MAJOR items...clutch master cylinder, fuild change, etc etc) you can do to your 1g DSM to improve your Shifting before having to rebuild the tranny. Reason is, my DSM shifted like CRAP when i first bought it ... ("all awd cars this old shifts like this"...if i ever find the guy who sold me the car.... )then, i replaced and adjusted the clutch master cylinder, replaced the fuild, and she gets into gear 100% better than were it was before (would have to start it in reverse cause there was NO WAY of getting there starting from neutral ). The question is, short of sending the tranny to SHEP (which i will do...just not yet) what else can be done to improve shifting (the main problem now is that she has trouble getting into 2nd gear without grinding from a 6500 rpm shift from 1st....and well, i need my 2nd gear! =)

:SIDE NOTE: (not as important as the first segment, but, why would i be getting a "code 24 vehical speed sensor" since my 1g isn't suppose to have a speed sensor {so said another post} and if i do have one, where do i find it?, and 2nd, my fuel gauge is pointing strait up and staying there, how would i problem shoot that one)....again, priority to the first segment of the post.

The grind from 1 to 2 is obviously your synchros and there isnt really much you can do to prevent that. What are you running for tranny fluid? I didnt see you mention that.

Also is the linkage tight and properly adjusted?

Some people swear by replacing the shifter bushings with skateboard bearings but I have not done it so I cant really comment.

The fliud is a Valvoline Semi-Synthetic i'm pretty sure. A Mix of 1qt 75-85w and 1qt 80-140w.

Linkage Tight and Propery adjusted? How does one go about that? (or should i just do a search?)

Im guessing its probably the syncro's. However doesnt hurt to check the cables as someone suggested. First check on top of the tranny and make sure nothing is in the way of the cables when shifting. Second go to Vfaq. There is a how to with pics on how to adjust the shifter. Sometimes this does cure the problem and its very simple to do.;)

1A. I vote for synchros also.

1B. Mine is a 2G but the same should apply. I purchased it new with 9 miles on it, and I agree that the shifter "feel" sucked, even new. However there are a few things that can be done to improve this. As stated, swapping out the cable ends (at the tranny) with new brass bushings or the skateboard bearings, poly shifter base bushings, I use BG synchro-shift fluid, and then of course a new shifter (I have a B&M short shifter) all help. Now the car feels totally different, like it should have in the beginning.

2. Don't know.

3. I would start at the gauge and check there for the proper signal, if you have it then you know the gauge took a dump. If you don't, then I would check the level sensor in/out signal.

Wow... thanks for the quick replys... if anyone has 2cents feel free. When i get home tody i'm going to start riping crap apart...probablly stay up about 4 hours later then when i told myself i would stop, and start the car at around 3am to test it out (ticking everyone off in my neighborhood)

Wendy... a girl racer... how cool is that. I'm trying to get my girl into it too. She likes driving the talon but doesn't want to for now since the shifting is kinda tough. Her name is Wendy too... we got engaged 6 days ago. =D <----- big silly grin
