The other day I was comming home from school and had my cruise control set at about 65ish. I was watching my boost gauge and it was kind of moving between 0 and 10 inches, then I stated going down a slight incline and it held at zero. I was thinking, WTF? So I stepped on the gas just a tiny bit, and almost instantly I head a POP noise comming from the engine bay. It sounded as like it was came from the lower part of the drivers side of the engine. As soon as this happened I looked at my guages and my coolant temps were fine and my oil pressure was right where is was supposed to be. I let off the cruise, and then all of the sudden the oil pressure light came on. As soon as I saw that light come on I turn off the car and coasted to the side of the road. I then called up a dsm buddy of mine to come pick me up... Before we left we tried cranking in over and it wouldn't. All it would do is click (the starter). So I got it towed to my house. I haven't really gotten a chance to start tearing it apart, but so far the timming belt seems to be intact. My theory is that the balance shaft belt snapped. But any other theories are welcome!

Thanks for any opinions! I WILL get to the bottom of this.

PS- It sucks ass, seeing as it was the third day out of storage and only 210 miles on the new turbo!:notgood:

Also, I forgot to mension that the car has oil, it didn't loose any, however there was a small wet oil spot on the road after I pulled over under the oilfilter housing. The car had been leaking a little bit from the turbo oil feed line. But it was only about a drop or two everytime I parked the car. The amount under the car after it broke down was more than usual, but not enough to cause the engine to kill itself.

I agree with your theory. Probably broke the bs belt. It's happened to me a few times, the damn BS bearing always seizes and snaps the belt.

Have you tried turning the engine backwards with a breaker bar? It probably isnt a good sign when the starter wont even crank the engine over, something obviously broke.

negative. I havn't really gotten a chance to look at it...

sounds like a bad battery or bad battery connection of its clicking and not turning over. clean the terminals and try jump starting it....

I wish that was the case man, but it's not the battery. I put the battery in my beater car so I can drive that around until I get this shit figured out, and it starts the beater up right away...

Well, it sounds like a BS belt to me, but also if you can, try to push start the car. If the Motor just clicks once, than you have 1 of 3 possible problems, 1. Dead Battery. (which you already said was fine) 2. Bad Starter (definatly a possibility, but doesn't sound like that is your case) 3. Engine problem (the flywheel cannot turn over for some reason). I hope you figure out what is wrong, because I know how it feels to own a DSM and not have it running. Good luck man.

well that still doesnt rule out the battery cables... Good luck hope you got it figured out and its not bad...

DAMNIT! Bs belt is still good.... Dropped the oild pan and this is what I found. Cylinder #4's rod cap is BONE dry. No oil at all. So the bearing is going to be toast, also I saw heat marks on the front balance shaft.
When I drained the oil I didn't see any shavings in the oil, but I ran my finger across the oil pick up and there were chucks all over it...
Here are some pictures.... Hehe, anyone got 7bolt they wanna sell me?

also, if you look at the second and third picture, you can see the front balance shaft looks like it has some extensive wear on it were it goes between the two middle cylinders
