MTL,
Good Evening dsmers,

Ive installed my A/F gauge today and i followed the instructions on
http://gc.dsm.org/faqs/2gairfuelgauge.htm
and the diagram on
http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ecu-harness-2G.html

I purchased the autometer a/f gauge

This is what I did.

I connected the red wire ( power wire ) on the terminal wire number 25
the black wire ( negative ) on the terminal wire 92
and the violet ( front O2 signal wire) on terminal 76.

All wires were sodered and then taped with black electrical tape.

When i started the car and didnt get anything on the gauge i took it for a run to see if it would get a signal but i got nothing.

I played around with the wires to see if maybe i had some sort of misconnection but still nothing. Now my question is , if the unit had power would it atlest light up the gauge ?

Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated guys. Thank you very much for taking the time to try to solve my little problem.:thumb:

Cheers

The gauge itself will not light up. However, the indicator lights of the gauge itself will. It's also normal for the gauge not to respond until the car is warmed up. It will be responsive sometiems when cold, but not very much.

Light show :rocks:

I had an Autometer A/F Sport Comp gauge sitting on my desk... and reading this post made me finally get up and install it. I just installed it 10 minutes ago using the links you provided. I used Tap splices and flexable 14 gauge wire (hey it was all I had)...

My gauge appears to be working somewhat normally, but I honestly never seen one of these in action so I will tell you guys how its acting so you can tell me if its all good.

Started the car: Gauge lights up, @ idle gauge stays at lowest red "lean" end for a few minutes. After warming up a lil' it fluctuates, but stays mostlys around the lean red side.

Shift into first and take off slowly: fluctuates alot, but stay mostly in the amber stoich area.

Punch it in first: fluctuates, but mostly stays in the green lean area when I lay off the gas and blow off occurs (I'm blowing off into the atmosphere so I would think its accurate on this part).

Normal driving around 30 mph: This thing fluctuates like crazy, but stays mostly in upper stoich/lower rich side.

A few seconds after laying off the gas/engine braking/no load coasting: No LEDs lit. When I tap the gas pedal, LEDs come back.

Basically I'm concerned about how it fluctuates... I mean its kinda annoying. When I say it fluctuates, I don't mean slowing between the LEDs... this thing will go to lean to rich in a split second.

So is this normal operation?

That's normal for it. It will only give the somewhat accurate reading that it gives if for some reason either;

(a.) you're fuel is cutoff or you lose fuel pressure or something involving not getting fuel. Which is when it will stay pinned in lean, even at WOT.

(b.) You're getting enough fuel and air and everything seems to be good. Which is when it will stay either stoich or rich, but chances are it will stay rich.

Maybe I'll put a video of mine on sometime later. But basically, your's is running as it's supposed to.

Thanks for the reply. After reading other posts about A/F gauges (which I shoulda done first), the reason why it behaves like that is because its linked to a narrowband O2 sensor.

BTW OP sorry didnt't mean to hijack your post :p

Anyways as I said I followed those instructions exactly with the help of that diagram you linked to and it worked for me no prob...

just wonderin will the instructions given in that first link be the same for a 1g minus the harness and pins of course?

This is the one thing that has always had me wondering, is the gauge suppose to shut off a few seconds your foot is not of the gas at all, but comes right back when you push the gas? I thought I was the only one that had the issue.

its been awhile that ive been trying to get this working as u can see and ive never gotten it to work. Like someone mentioned he asked me if my o2 sensor was working and so i did a few test which im not sure was bad but i did anyway. Basicly i took a voltmeter and tested the o2sensor while the car was running. The voltmeter gave me 0.1 to 0.4 but it was never steady even when i was given it some gas it didnt really do anything different. I know i had a few problems with my rear o2 sensor which i changed but possibly its still messed.

Can anyone suggest a few other ways i can possibly test my o2 sensor before i go ahead and change it again ?

Thanks all

From reading this all over again, your A/F ratio gauge seems to be acting just as it should. In no way however, would I ever rely on it for your reasoning of another part malfunctioning.
