Yesterday my engine started misfiring horribly. I did an ohm test on my coil pack a few minutes ago. Here are the numbers:

primary
1/3 = 1.5 first time i checked.. 0 the second time?
2/3 = same as above

secondary
1/4 = 12.95
2/3 = 13.15

the printout I got from this forum says standard values are primary - 0.77 - 0.95 and secondary 10.3 - 13.9. It seems like my coil is bad to me, but i'd like some confirmation from someone with some experience with coils before I shell out the money for it.

can you confirm the you are getting voltage and a signal at the coil pack connector?

Well, the car starts and stays running.. it just misses horribly, like only 2 cylinders are running.. plus, isn't the primary measurement the connector?

If you measured it with a 0.01 ohm digital meter then it probably is bad. Coils can go bad with age and temperature even if they ohm out correctly (and you need a 0.01 ohm digital meter to test the primary or you can get misleading results). Remove each spark plug, connect the spark cable, clamp casing of the plug to metal, crank and watch the spark. It should be strong. If weak, test the cables (measure resistance while bending and make sure they're not sparking). If cables ok, replace the coil (try a friends first if possible). The power transistor unit can also be flakey but the cables and coil are more likely.

I have a digital multimeter, similar to the attached image. My wires are around 6 months old, brand new plugs.

Check out your baseline timing and check for any intake tract leaks. Other than that I think you are on the right track. Test the coils multiple times and you can decide whether or not your coil is bad compared to the standard values in the book.

Other than that, if everything is good, you think maybe the CAS is malfunctioning or maybe even an ECU?

I ordered a coil pack today, so when it comes in, i'll see if it works. If not, then i'll start checking the other things.

Damn,

too bad the coil didnt help. Have you checked the power transistor?? Normally when it starts to go, you loose 2 cylinders so I doubt that's it. My next guess is the ECU...

Well, I put in the new coil pack today and there is absolutely no change whatsoever. I tried new plug wires, nothing.. next step is a CAS I guess..

Have you figure out a solution to this problem? My car sounds like yours and I'm out of ideas.

Seems like 4 and 2 are not functioning and back fire here and there.

Thx.

Hey bhop, have you figured out your problem yet?

I have the same problem, my primary coils read 2.1 Ohms.

Did you replace the coils packs on top of the secondary ones? (sorry about the confusion, I don't know the part names for what I'm talking about)

Maybe a picture will help:

Did you replace these:

OR the harness that it sits on top of?

Let me know,

Thanks,

Tom

What about boost or vacuum leak. What pluggs are you using? nothing but NGK. besides that, it could be the CAS. Also check the injectors. How does it drive with load?
