It started happening over the last few days. When I start the car first thing in the AM to head to work, it wants to behave as advertised. However, I asy that maybe after the first 10 minutes of running, it starts acting all haywire. Also, sometimes when I turn my headlamps on, the needle stops 'dancing', but sits below zero! the contacts aren't touching anything metallic, in fact, they are seperated from each other as well.

I can't take the probe out and check it, as it got welded to the bung since the bung was stupidly put in backwards(the section that was supposed to connect to the probe was turned around, and used as the tap to put into the exhaust mani instead)WTF

So, any idea on what I can do?

That definately sounds like a voltage problem. You may want to check the source that you tapped to feed the gauge with power. This is almost always the case when you have one device directly affecting another when it starts to pull voltage off the system. Where are you tappinig power for the gauge/sending unit?

It also could be a problem with the sending unit itself, but that is not very likely. How long have you had the EGT?

I had the same this happen to me w/ an autometer setup. Turned out it was the probe. The autometer probes are junk. I returned it and got a new probe, 2 months later it did the same thing. I'm using a TRE probe now with no problems.

Very good question. Honestly I do not know, as my car was broken into while I was out of the country, and the EGT was one of many things that were taken.

As for length, it was installed maybe for months ago, and the car was driven only once until I came back the 11th of this month.

ChvyKc, and project tsi-I will look into both of your suggestions. And hopefully befor I leave for vacation this Friday. If it helps, the probe itself I've had for maybe two years, it's the gauge up to the connections that are fairly new.

I know how you feel about that. I dropped my 3G off one night at a shop to have the tranny swapped out after snapping my second differential. When I came by there the next morning to drop off the lug nut key I noticed that my muffler was gone. Someone had broken into the car that night and cut my exhaust off the car with a torch (who carries a torch around with them???). They also took my CAI and my full nitrous set-up. I lost a lot of money when they did that and decided to sell the car once I got it back in running condition.

Sorry it's been so long to update my problem, but after replacing the probe(just the probe), and buying a new gauge, it was still dancing around. So that just leaves the K type wire(red and yellow with prongs). So I called around and tried to buy another one to no avail. So I gave Autometer a call, and explained my issue. After telling them the k-wire was the only thing left, Autometer sent me another one, no questions asked, free of charge. And now it works, strange, but works. :thumb:

I know some people talk bad about Autometer, but from my experience, especially from a technical support standpoint, 10/10 in my book! I'd also say their gauges are good as well, as the original EGT is still good-verified that yesterday! :thumb: :rocks:
