OK...
I'm sick of my stock 95 GST, and I think 157k miles is enought for the 4g63.
The car as is runs fine, but the compresion ,oil presure + some added small oil leaks make it not so great. :)
I consider myself a newbie because I never yet took a engine apart and put it back togheter...I've done pretty much everything else :)
I feel like I spent my money for nothing on this car if I'm gonna have somebody rebuild my own engine+ I can't really afford it to have somebody do it.
With the risk of damaging the engine/or anything else I want to do it!
At least if I try I might suceed ...better then waiting the engine to blow on me anyway.
I need a good tutorial from how to chose the internals, 2 what basic tools you need to do the rebuild. I have a good picture of how it should be done, but I need a step by step guide...cause' Haynes isn't helping that good.
I was thinking of buying a 2.3L stroker kit with a 4g64 crank, but the again I don't know what needs to be modified etc..
On the forum everything is scattered, and it's a pain to put everything togheter+ I didn't find a good post/tutorial on how to rebuild your own engine:4g63, 420A, etc....only that 10 min video abt those guys from WI having fun in their garage...
I would really really apreciate, and I'm sure I'm not gonna be the only one if a PRO will put togheter a tutorial(with pics and/or maybe video) on how to rebuild your own engine , starting even like I said with the basic tools that you need.
I know it's a big step for a newbie...but it's like a 'Evolve or die' kinda thing called in the I.T world :)

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I cant really think of any full guides. Depending on what exactly you are wanting to do.
ie...buy a built motor and install it yourself or buy everything seperate and try to assemble it yourself. The difficulty level is going to vary greatly. Just my .02, but I dont feel assembling an engine completely (rods, pistons etc.) should be attempted by someone thats never had any type of experience. Besides the speciality tools aren't going to be cheap either, and sending peices and parts off to different shops to have this done and that done. Is going to rack up a nice bill. Not trying to discourage you by no means. I think everyone should be able to work on their own cars. All I am saying is buying a built engine maybe alot easier. That is if you arent planning to use your current block, head etc. Installing a mtor is CAKE. Well thats if you got rid of all the comforts of life like I did like. AC, PS etc.:D Just be prepared to use the muscles or mus-cools as Popeye would say. Good luck.

Get the DSM Technical Manual on CD. That has detailed images and descriptions for everything you are looking for. I've seen them for like $8 on eBay.

As far as doing it yourself, if you have a friend or friend's parent who has some mechanical expertise to help you, I think it would be an excellent learning experience for you better understand your car.

blackGSX2G when I used to live by Kalamazoo(moved last fall up here) :) it was much easier because my best friend is building race cars(big V8's) for some company in FL...and I spent a lot of time in his garage...since I moved UP here, I lost contact with all my friends down there + I don't even have a garage anymore :)
Thx for the info!

ive built 4 of these motors...one of them consisting of being non turbo and i made it into a turbo...400fwhp = fun stuff : ) ...

what kind of horsepower are you looking for ? ?

Sorry to tell you this but building an engine is not something that someone with no experience should attempt. This doesn't mean that you can't do it yourself though. I would recommend that you at least take a class or read a book about engine building. Any good book about building engines will give you all the basics. Especially in the case of high performance rebuilds there are very strict tolerances that must be followed. You really need special tools to check things like bearing clearences and NO PLASTIGAUGE IS NOT OK. Your best bet is to find someone with experience in building engines( preferrably with tools) and let them help you in the process. Good luck with your rebuild. There is nothing more satifying than hearing an engine you built come to life for the first time.:rocks:

-Calm down, why are you so defensive? awdtalontsi1992 was replying to Siral3x's question, and I agree totally with what 1992 said, Siral3x can start by do all the majority of dis and re assembling but the critical work should leave to the expert until he/she get more experience.
