car wont start

I have had my car parked since the winter started and just the other day I went to start it and nothing. It almost starts and smoke is coming out of the exhaust. The battery is charged and everything but car wont turn on. A neighbor looked at and said a fuel pump i have no idea?, I started it a couple of times, not enough over the winter. Any advice is appreciated.

Well, if nothing else, I would pull the plugs and read them. If they are soaked and black, I would replace them. Sometimes for no apparent reason the plugs can foul.

If that doesn't do it, then spray some carb spray into the intake while cranking. If it tries to start, it's fuel related. If it doesn't, then it's spark or mechanical.

BTW, be careful when spraying carb spray and cranking. If it backfires, you can get a new hair do whether you want it or not.

You might also want to pull the ecu out and see if there is any leak from the capacitors. I left my dsm sit for a few months and the ecu went bad.
