Alrighty so tonight we decided to fix an oil leak in the 1g awd and we get that all fiixed and we start the car and shut if off and it makes this odd noice when You shut it off like a knock the same sort of noise a car would make when running out of gas and it does it everytime I shut the car off. During idle There is no knock we took the head off and didnt notice anything wrong. any ideas

Do the engine mounts look worn? Is your exhaust loose, possibly rubbing underbody obsticles (frame, xfer case, driveshaft). Missing any tools?

When the engine shuts off it will rock a bit forward, so if any of the above the answer to any of the above is YES, you've found your answer ;) :dsm:

well I know the exhaust is loose is it possible for the head to be messed up. But the car wouldnt run as good as it does though i wouldnt think im just wondering if its possible if it could be something serious

What exactly did you do in your efforts to repair the oil leak?

Does in "knock" once or a few times during shut down?

It is possible (and I've seen it many times) that you may just have a bad tank of gas, a clogged injector(s) or even a bad plug which is causing your car to have engine run on (e.g. keeps running for a little bit after shutdown).

This would cause a dieseling sound (knock) as the cyls ignition points would be off kilter :dsm:

Oil leak was Just because the dip stick blew out

It knocks a few times when shutting down.
Plugs are brand new

The motor was just put a 6 bolt the shell was sitting for 3 years and the gas that was in there may be mixed in with the gas we put in. and also found out the turbo is blown

What should I do to try and fix it ?

Drain and flush the tank/fuel lines, change the fuel filter and possibly clean the injectors too. Your 3-year old gas is likely the culprit as untreated will get all "funky". Not to mention 3-years of water condensation.

My brother gave me his old tractor that he has sitting for 3 years without draining the gas. The carb had to be replaced as did the fuel lines due to corrosion :dsm:
