I JUST got my head back from Abacus so it has zero (0) miles. The block has 19 miles. Before my engine first went down (11-2005) it tested 210 across with HKS 272's. I sold the 272's to fix the engine. The cylinders (1 & 3) that tested 80 had oil on top of the pistons, but no coolant. I've removed and re-installed the head twice in the past two days and nothing changes! I'm using a Cometic HP HG, and 'am torquing everything down from 72-80lbs/tq. using FSM torquing sequence. What's wrong?!!
Please help, I'm about to hit the $11k mark in my 1G AWD.
Thanks guys.

You might make sure the valves are sealing. If the old engine didn't do it, then I would look for that or possible the lifters are holding them open a tiny amount.

Be hard to tell without looking.

Good Luck

Yeah, I've had others from another site mention the valves, as well as my Dad. I'm gonna tow it today and see what I can get done.
Thanks a lot.

Well, we pulled the head. No bent valves, leakdown found air escaping from exhaust. Flipped head over and sprayed cleaner into the pits/chambers of valves, the pool of cleaner remained w/o sinking/seeping through so the valves are sealing. Timing was checked, timing was fine. Only thing found was 2 lifters are VERY hard to push down.
The head's gonna go back to the machine shop and see what they can find. What can it be???!!!

If your lifters aren't functioning properly, they can hold the valves open a small amount. This can result in lost compression and in some instances lost horsepower.

The valves not letting the cleaner through tells you it's not bent valves.

I would still look at the lifters.

Good Luck

I had no idea lifters could cause this. I'm hoping it's just that so I can go to the junkyard and snag 'em, or see about bleeding them down. Thank you very much I appreciate it.
