(97 talon tsi awd a/t stock turbo)

I just recently took off my stock upper IC pipe and noticed fresh oil, both in the pipe and on the mouth of the intake manifold. I checked the turbo and it had no leaks and my intake filter is clean. It seems like it stops right at the BOV and is coming from within the intake manifold and blowing out. Are there any specific places i should check out ? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you-scott

I am pretty sure this has to do with the breather hose from the valve cover. There's a nipple about in the middle of the cover on the passenger side. A lot of people put an open filter or a inline filter there. I have been meaning to do this too, I'll prob do the inline. This is also how some people have oil in their intercooler which decreases it's efficiency so it's said to be good to clean that out. I would check vfaq and the free mod list on how to do these things, ie: filter and clean intercooler. good luck!

Edit: http://www.dsmtuner.com/tuning-guide/2gturbo/stage0power.php Here is a link to the free mod page, look at steps 6 and 9 and might as well check the others while you are there.

I used to get some oil in my intake pipe, but after I added a catch can no more oil. I got a cheap fuel filter and placed it inbetween the valve cover and intake pipe, that way it is still in a closed loop and I don't get oil in my engine bay.

I highly recommend the above-described modification. It really does show how much oil and sludge would otherwise be going into the intake. I change mine at about every oil change and my intake pipe has been dry ever since.

To the original poster: To rule out some other things, I would take off the lower intercooler pipe and see if there's any oil residue in it, as well as the intercooler itself. It can always use a good cleaning anyway. Here's a vfaq on how to clean the intercooler if you aren't sure how. If there happens to be any oil in the lower intercooler pipe, I would check the turbo for shaft-play, which would indicate a failing seal, and ultimately, a failing turbo. I try to impress on people the importance of checking for shaft play as a part of regular maintenance, since it can warn of possible damage to the turbo and engine.

I can't think of anywhere else that oil would come from, especially from the intake manifold, but I can't be positive of that. Sometimes sludge will pool up in the runners of the intake manifold, but you said it was fresh oil, so that leads me to believe it came from either the valve-cover vent as others have mentioned, or the turbo. If I remember right, those are the only sources oil could get into the intake tract. Good luck.
