So I am having this problem starting my car. I put two new starters in the damn thing. The first one didnt work so I had to bring it back. Once I got the new starter in I had the same problem, I figured it had to be something else. We checked the connections and noticed the wires to the battery were lose. So after rigging them to work, we tried again and it worked for a couple starts, but then stopped. I then bought a new battery and hopped that was it. The car starts a lot more often then it did before, but still has the sound of the starter not working. It is a loud clicking sound everytime the key is turned. I have no idea what else to check. Any advice would be awesome. THanx

There was just a thread about this reguarding a Non-Turbo car. Your problem is probably the positive wire running from the starter to the positive terminal on the battery. Especially if when you tampered with it, it temporarily fixed the problem. Chances are there is corrosion somewhere in the wire. Just replace it reguardless. It's rather cheap.

I agree. If you played with the battery cable and it made an improvment, although temporary, that's probably where the problem is. I just replaced mine. It was about $6 at the auto parts store.

I had the same problem with some after market starters from Advance. You must be certain your wiring is good from the bat. to the starter.
My wiring was fine and it turned out that ALL the starters from that batch sent to that store were N/G, we tested 8 of them. The store can test the starter on the bench to see how much current it's drawing, so if you are still having trouble I'd have them bench test it AND the new one they will give you.
Good Luck

Real fun when the parts you purchase to replace your bad parts are actually worse than the useless ones you just took off.
Makes diagnostics a real fun art. Now, you are faced with the dilemma. Was the first one bad, or is this new one bad, or have I just overlooked something.

Questions, questions.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Good Luck

i checked the wires from the bat to the startere. theyre just fine.. im gunna try to buy a new starter yet again. hopefully a better one. has anyone tried using the factory one from the a dealer? is that usually more expensive then auto stores would be.
