Hi everyone, first post

My car's timing sensor was replaced by previous owner. HE missed by one notch on the belt. The car DOES run .... but it's not hard to tell that it's off a tad. How do I go about retiming it properly. I DO have a timing gun. All help appreciated. Thanks :thumb:

how difficult would this be ?? And is there any way the gun will help ??

Basically I don't wanna find out that the pistons and valves are slamming into each other when I start the car right ??

Yeah you can check the timing with your gun to see where it is. It should be at 5 degrees. To adj the timing belt would take several hours, if you havn't changed a timing belt it would take longer plus you should get a Hanes book on your car to help you.

You would try and rotate everything as close as you can get to TDC with the belt on first.
Keeping in mind that the oil pump drives the lower balance shaft and can be either in or our of phase when all the marks line up. If you can rotate the engine and line everything but the bad cam up with the balance shaft in phase you can loosten the belt and move the one cam a tooth if your careful. If you not you'll get to put the belt on from scratch when it all pops loose.

Since these are interference engines try not to rotate the crank or cams much once the belt is off.
