OK, I have searched for 4 hours now. Many people have explained similar diagnosis, but no answers. So here we go...

Speedometer dosen't work. New sensor, clip, and gear. If i remove the sensor assembly and manually turn the gear, speedo registers.

Other people have said this, and the only suggestion is to replace speedo driven gear. I have already done this though. Is it possible that the drive gear is somehow broken or disconnected? This is the only thing i can think of unless there is a way to install the sensor wrong. I can't see this hapening, but who knows.

Annother idea is that i have the wrong speedo gear. Possible not big enough. My car is a 97, but not sure what year the tranny is out of because i got a used one.

i would run threw and check if something just came disconnected and if every thing his hooked up correctly. I would say try replacing the gear. If that doenst work i would say call some of your local DSMers to help and if they have no clue, take it to a dealer

I know everything is hooked up correctly because it works out of the transmission.

The only thing i can think of is that i have the wrong vss housing or speedo gear, causing a misalignment.

PLEASE HELP!!! this is my last driveability issue before tuning! With the damn shutterbox, i cant rev past like 4600!!!

At this point it sounds like that may be the problem.

Another thing you can test however, is the voltage on the VSS signal wire (yellow) to make sure it's working properly. When turning, it averages around 5.3V. But if you stop turning it when the voltage goes to the extremes, it will be around 10.9V at one point and around 0.2V at another. You must turn it very slowly to find these points. Anything above 8V and below 0.5V should be ok.

I have already checked that as well. Its got to be an internal problem.

Seeing that the drive gear is a part of the center diff., if thats broken, i think id be expieriencing other problems as well. I called mitsu and they said there are two different driven gears available. There is only a one tooth difference, but im gonna try it.

If this dosen't work, the next step is the tranny shop. I plan on getting a tre or shep next year, but i need this fixed, so if it is a tranny problem, im gonna have to start robbing banks againROFL
