Use more oil than recommended?

'91 Eclipse RS. 160,000 miles on it. Do any of you put more than the standard amount of oil in when changing it? If so, how much do you put in? I've heard that people generally put a little more in on some models.

i don't know how much leeway you'd have before a little more is too much more. often if you put in too much oil in an engine it will be whipped by the crank, which aerates the oil until it no longer forms a film on moving parts.

if you're talking about a couple millimeters on the dipstick you'd probably be just fine. there's not really a good reason to though, especially if adding extra is a way to avoid checking it often.
