If i go and drive my car, shut it off, and then start it back up before it has fully cooled off on the gauge its runs very badly and tends to die... it idles below 500rpm and sounds like it is missing, if i rev it a bit or make it hold rpm around 2500 for a couple seconds it clears out and runs fine from there on out... until the next time i try to shut it off and start again... anyone have any ideas on this, could this problem also come along with idle surge? i drive a 90 TSi AWD thats COMPLETELY stock... any input would be great...

Man I remember this problem from back in the day. I guess no one really reads the talon digest of uses vfaq.com anymore, however it was discussed in detail back in the day about this being a problem that some 1g's just had from the factory and mitsu could not rectify. They suposedly changed some of the programing in later model 1g's that fixed this but it was never confirmed. I don't really know what to tell you about how to fix it because there really never was a fix.

You're describing the classic vapor lock problem. Does it go away if you hold it at red line in 1st gear (car moving) for 15 seconds? If so, vapor lock. Check the fuel pressure control valve for proper operation (it raises fuel pressure when engine is started while warm to prevent fuel from vaporizing). If this isn't it try the hot starting problem fixes at: http://www.dsm.org/how-tos/JFM/HotStart.html. Otherwise search the forum for warm start, hot start, or vapor lock.

thanks for the info... i'll try that stuff and see if it changes anything... i really hope so..

I've been having this problem as well. I'm thinking it is my fuel pump and maybe an o ring that is loose. I am going to go through the tank this weekend and let you know what I found out.
