Ok here's the deal, car went out on me from bad sensors last month, changed those changed the starter which was found to be bad and yes the car started. But now im getting a knocking sound from somewhere doesnt sond like its in the engine. Also the car runs fine for a few mintues warms than dies. So i had to leave it down at the shop for another weekend just when i thought i was getting it back. Car is 97 gsx a/t stock everything

forgot to add that the guy thats helping me work on the car says it might be a broken flexplate or a bolt thats coming out, he says it doesnt sound like a rod.

A cracked flexplate will for all the world sound like a rod. Put it in gear with your foot on the brake. Does it get quieter? "GENTLY" rev it up and float it. Is it louder? Is it worse at idle?

let us know

I know it doesn't get louder when you rev it a little you hear it most at idle, we did however not put it in gear before i had to leave. I'll have to ask him what it did after he moved out of the garage. The guy thats doing it for me is a certified mech at a local shop that does most of the tuner work around here for the last 10 years or so, so i do trust these guys and he did say it did sound like the plate and not a rod, which i am guessing is a better problem to have i guess than a rod. Any ideas on the stalling out after warming up, the flexplate being cracked wouldnt cause that would it?

Were you anywhere near the blade for the crank sensor? If you were pull the crank pully back off and inspect the blade for scratches. I changed my front crank seal a few weeks ago and slightly bent my blade. It sounded alot like a rod at idle but got quieter with revs. pulled it back apart and fixed in less than 10 min, but it probably helped that I dont have the plastic timing covers on my car.

Changed the crank sensor in that area but did not touch or mess the blade for the crank. But it doesnt sound like that area at all more on the other side of the motor. I did notice when i first looked at the car a few weeks ago when i was doing my initial searchingi found a ground cable attached to a bolt that was just hanging down by the starter and transmission, and now im hoping i didnt put it back in the wrong hole, although i didnt see any other ones it could've came from.

Update, went to the shop where the car is at and i backed out a bolt near the starter that the ground cable is hooked to and the constant knocking noise is gone, whew for now. Changed the plugs and let it ran till it warmed up and it did not stall out, yeah! It does have a vibration which it did have before from about 2-3k rpm below that its fine above that its fine. With the vibration there is also a faint knock to that but goes away with the vibration. I just had all the belts off and all the pulleys are fine.

Here's whats new. Was able to get the car home only about 2 miles away. Started fine ran fine till i got almost home than as it got fully warmed up the car jerked a few times ran fine jerked again and died on me. Pulled over gave it a few seconds started back up and got home than it died in my drive way. So once its warmed up it stalls out and dies and the vibration/rattle that i have from 2-3K gets a little worse. Ive changed with brand new parts the starter, cam sensor, timing belt tensioner and had the timing reset as it was off by 2 teeth. Also when it was jerking while driving you could here the ecu click a few times. No smelly fish in the car for a bad ecu, im new to these cars what should i check now

Also i seem to remember the first time i got the stuttering problem while driving is when my alt belt shredded. It wouldnt stall just stutter every now and then thats why i changed the cam sensor. Besides electrical which i havent had a chance to check yet, is there anything i should look for or check. Thanks for the ideas so far.

Ok i've been goin thru it today and here's where im at. I got it purring right now nice and quiet let it run for about 20 min or so and it started to hiccup a little, rev it up a bit and it will still sputter so its doing it at idle and under load. And after a while if i just let in idle it will finally just die out. I've checked the plugs to make sure the gap was right, they did after only a little bit of running do have a lot of carbon build for such a short time. I've checked all connections for sensors. What would cause it to act like this only when it gets warm.
