Ok so earlier today i let some one drive my car and they slipped the hell outta my clutch dont know if that did it or not buttt, just got in my car and went to put it in gear and all it does is grind. every gear, after a little grinding it went into reverse and started going back but my clutch was still in. Did my clutch take a dump and is no longer engaging or what is it. If anyone has an idea let me know. thanks!

Sounds like your clutch may be out of adjustment. Just in case you don't know how to adjust it... Theres a rod behind your clutch pedal that goes to the master cylinder. Loosen the locking nut and rotate the rod, if it's out of adjustment, until your clutch disengages the desired amount off the floor. It sounds like your clutch may not be fully disengaging when it is all the way depressed.

Did it sit for a little bit in reverse and then start moving while the clutch was in? In any case, you may want to check your slave cylinder and master cylinder for leakage. The master cylinder will be simple if your going back there to adjust your clutch anyway.

behind the clutch pedal in the engine bay? if so how do i tell if its in adjustment and is there any chance its the clutch? thanks for the help man

Behind the clutch pedal under the dash. It's a rod that goes into the firewall. Adjust it out (make it longer) and try to engage a gear with the clutch depressed. If it doesn't help, I'd look toward it being the slave or master cylinder. Again, while your under the dash, check for any signs of fluid near the rod your adjusting, as that is a sure sign you master cylinder is leaking. In order to check the slave, get under your car and pull back the boot on your slave cylinder push rod. If there is any fluid, replace and enjoy.

P.S. ... Eh... Doesn't sound like a "clutch" problem, per se. It sounds like it is one of the components of your clutch system, but not your clutch.

I think I have a leak in my master cylinder. It leaks through the line though. Does this allow air to enter?

ok i checked the rod and there is fluid all around it, so i guess i better replace that and also should i go ahead and replace the slave at the same time? and how hard is it to do this? thanks

anytime you have a leak it means the rubber seals are bad and you are getting blow-by.the master cylinder and slave cylinder are easy to change...take about an hour.just change the master cylinder first and see if that fixes the problem.get a manual for your car-they are very helpful

Oh the seals? Right.. I was always thinking my line was busted, but I had it installed brand new so it didn't make sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

Cool. It's very simple to do as Shown here. I can't find a write up on a Master cylinder replacement, but it is very easy to do. Make sure you bleed the system properly. Good luck!

ok i switched the master cylinder and it still doesnt work so im gonan check the slave. if it isnt the slave whats on the list of next possible problems?

ok i replaced the slave and master and bled the system like 3 seperate times and it still doesnt work. i need help asap i need my car back on the road, any ideas?
