ive been looking around and havent gotten much so i was hoping some one could help me out. I have a 91 eclipse gsx When i turn the key on the boost gauge and cel doesnt come on. Sometimes the cel will come on for 1 sec and the gauge jumps. The car has problems with the fuel system im trying to work on , but when you spray starter fluid in it , it will crank and run for a second. From what ive read the ecu could be a big part in it , the throttle sensor. what should i check and are there any better links that better explains whats going on? thanks in advanced
 
When you turn the key to ON your CEL should illuminate for ~5 seconds, and your boost gauge should read 0. If this doesn't happen, or doesn't happen all the time, it means that your ECU isn't booting up. Starter fluid in the intake will make the car turn over, but if your ECU isn't booting up, the car will not run, no matter what else is wrong with it. Unhook your ECU and take a look at the board and capacitors to check for leakage/damage. If your ECU is damaged, there are several options available. One would be swapping the ECU with a known good unit, and the other would be to send your ECU to member "Steve" here on the board for repair.

Until you fix the ECU problem, though, any other problems you're having will not be easy to diagnose, to say the least.
 
I would check your ECU!! Sounds like you have some leaking "Caps"
 
ok thanks im going to go pull it out and check it right now and will post up some pics if i find anything, supposedly the ecu is new but you never know, thanks.
 
i got the ecu out and opened, around the compacitors (when held in light) you can see where it looks like shits spilled on it . its clear not sticky and is only aroundcaps, the underside of the caps has two green things soldered to it...i dont know if this means anything but it has never been opened before and the casing seems new. The casing has a warning about checking all solenoids or relays for proper resistance values. Any value less that 20 ohms will destroy the replacement unit. So could that be it as well? This thing in my opinion looks pretty new to me...even if its fried.
 
also a good sign its fried i just saw is on the top of the ecu board where the caps sit, there is a black round cap sitting sideways with a metal wire on each ends. Where the top cover , covers the ecu there is a black mark , as if i put a lighter to it. It happens to be right over the caps if you put the cover on a little and look...

Caps leaked out and damaged the board!! Mine was in awesome condition, then one day it just happened!! PM "Steve" He is one of the best "electronics technician" He'll give you instructions on what to do!! Good luck!!
